The day I turned 16 (10/26/92). The next logical question: how long did it take to get into your first (unintentional) shunt? I think I made it a few months; certainly not a full year. It would have happened a whole lot sooner if I'd had a more sporting car than my 1972 Volvo sedan with 240k miles on the clock. With this knowledge, my kids will be driving MB W123 diesels while they rely on me for support. 300 vs. 240, turbo vs. N/A, wagon vs. sedan, etc. will depend entirely on GPA.

I rebuilt and then blew up my first engine before I turned 16. I distinctly remember telling my sister, "come on, let's see if it will do 70!" 69mph, it threw a rod out the side. 62 Plymouth Belvedere. Rebuilt it again, before I got my liscense at 16.

About 15 hours after I turned 16, those kids must take after their mother. Ex'es are warped.

I got mine when I was 16. I didn't really want it but I hated having people take me places. I got my 924S about 3 days after...So it was worth it My mom wasn't too happy when she came home from work and saw a little red car in the driveway but she got over it when I let her take it for a spin.

16 years, 9 hours.

I had an appointment for my driving test at 8:30 am, but something got screwed up and I had to wait until 9am. I passed, drove my mother home and dropped her off, and went out for a spin around town!

For years you had to be 17 to get a learner's permit in NJ and you would get an apointment for the road test a few months later. Several months before my 17th birthday the law was changed to 16.5 years for the permit and you got the licence at 17 but the earliest available appointment for the road test was a week after my birthday.

So, 17 years and 7 days. Took the test in Dad's '74 VW ragtop. How many here did their road test with a stick?
