Default What do You think of this Bumper Mod?

I am in the process of getting my car painted and decided to remove the bumper pads for the rear bumper. The guy who is painting the car filled the holes and glued the end caps on with body panel glue then sanded and painted it. What do you guys think?

I guess a pic would help duh!

WTF is a BUMBER mod? Is that anything like "whoa, bummer man"?

Just curious - I'm not up to speed with the modern lingo you whipper snappers use.

A Bumber... thats a part of the sheep stimulation device right?

But for real, I like it. What color paint is that you have on there? It looks like it has some metalic in it.

Just out of curiosity if you glue the end caps to the bumper are you going to bolt them back to the body like they originally were? If not won't they flap in the wind when you drive and eventually fall off?

I am not quite a whipper snapper just a poor typist.

Yes you still attach it to the body in the same way, You just have to glue it to the bumper because the pad held it on.

I'm not sure how the bumper attaches, but based on what you're saying, the pads were what held it on. So now you have to glue the bumper to the body since the pads are gone. I was wondering... what if your bumper got, say, BUMPED? would it fall off or get partially loosened and flap around? I don't know, just seems to me that even if it looks better, the bumper should still be solidly fastned to the frame for when it needs to be used. Getting rear-ended would cause more damage too.

No, just the end caps are glued on. The bumper attaches to the car, so it is secure.

The rear bumper mounts just like the front, a single bolt through each bumper shock. The end caps bolt to the body.

Oic. That does look pretty slick. But then again, the whole car is awesome with the perfect glossy black paint and those killer rims/tires. If I had money I would go for a bad set of rims/tires like that. Don't know how it would look on a red car though...

I think I may have to do that to my euro bumper... It look's awsome...

Hey while we're on the subject of body styling, I spoke to the guys who maintain my car about the posibility of replacing my front bumper and skirt with one off a 968... Has anyone seen/heard/done this change to 1983 944 ?

I plan on doing that to my car. I believe AIR and/or GT Racing sell a one piece rear bumper that takes what you did and just makes it look cleaner...but the only thing is that it's fiberglass...
