Ignition Switch Removal.....
92 968 cp.
Whats the step by step procedure to replace an Ignition switch on a 968? Do I have to pull the drivers seat? Does the left side bottom dash section have to come out? Do I have to pull the Air Bag steering wheel?
Thanks..........

Well, I figured I would remove the drivers seat for some room, and wouldn't you know, some bonehead from the past used the wrong wrench to pull the seat at one time. Besides the wallowed out heads, he cross threaded 1 out of two.
I'm starting out on the 4 in the back now, I might get finished this year.....:-(
People wonder why I do my own work..............

Moe,
No need to remove the drivers seat unless maybe you have the Club Sport with the high sides. Lying on your back on the seat you should be able to look up behind the dashboard and see the rear of the ignition switch.
It's easier to see if you remove the instrument binacle first along with the steering wheel. This also allows you to use two hands, one from above, one from below.
Unplug the wire connector first. Then, the electrical portion of the switch is held in place by two small flathead bolts. An electricians/terminal screwdriver is ideal.
If you need to remove the mechanical portion then you'll probably have to drill the two shear head bolts from below.
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks George, but I've got the old one out, and now I just have to install the new one tomorrow. I think if I hadn't taken the seat out, I'd still be under the dash with a terrible neck cramp. I can't imagine trying tis with the seat "IN".
I'll get some new seat bolts in the AM and get this mess over with......Anyway, it sure is easier than a 72 911.....:-)

There ought to be a worldwide ban on "slotted" flathead screws!!!!!!
I superglued the screws to a screwtip that goes into a magnetic screwdriver, took 10 minutes.......chargin the battery and I'll give it a shot in about an hour....(fingers crossed)
