Default OK got my winter beater, now its dead.

IT IS: 1988 Celica GT convert, 125K miles, Face it , It's a beater.

Problem is, I steam cleaned the engine and now no start. I'm guessing water is in the cap and rotor- any idea how long it'll take to dry out?

Signed, Hooptie at the car was with a no start, but clean engine bay.

EDIT: I almost forgot, While I was trying to jump the now dead battery, and throw 1.75 worth of gas in the new POS, this Very nice looking 85 1/2 black 944 pulls up for a wash. Roger, I hope you make next weekend's GTG!

Check around the plugs too. If you have an air tank and a blow gun fitting, that might help. WD-40 will also help break up any water that remains.

Just one question: A convertible for a winter beater? Doesn't it get that cold there? Is the back window plastic or glass? Good heat?

Small world. I just picked up a daily driver, too.
'92 Nissan Maxima SE 5 spd. Pretty strong motor and doesn't hande terrible.
It had a bad fuel injector and I just finished replacing it. PITA job. The intake manifold has to come off to get to the injectors.

Give the Celica a few hours to dry out. Spray WD40 in there too. The WD stands for 'Water Displacement'.

Thanks Pete, I was thinking WD40- I remember the WD as in Water Displacement ads as well.
I found the top (front) screw on the cap, but cant locate the other one in the dark. I'll try it in an hour or so.

I'm thinking this needs a head gasket- it stutters under torque, Maybe dirty injectors or a bad vacuum line as well. I figured I'd clean the motor prior to doing any poking around in there. It was running while steam cleaning it, and must had cut out on me unnoticed until the sprayer stopped. It was on Empty- I was gonna get gas as soon as I was done -- I had to run across the street, borrow a gas can and put $1.75 of gas in it and still no start. I figure a few hours should drain the cap and rotor if thats the problem.

Wanna race beaters Pete??

Try using a blowdryer to dry out the cap and rotor. It has worked in the past.

The only contest appropriate for a beater (or a rental car, for that matter), is how high you can get all four wheels off the ground (at the same time) without using a jack.

DONT forget about Harry's Acura..

SO FAR, I cant getthe cap and rotor off, I'll have to attack that in tomorrow's daylight (late to work.. sheesh!@) I didnt bring my toolbox, just a few odds and ends I thought I may need- every screwdriver I brought was too long (sound familiar to everyone who has tried to remove and reattach OUR caps and rotors..)

I did spray WD40 liberally around the cap- but alas, the **** box refuses to sputter.

Here's a repreresentative pic.
