I thought wd40 is a lubricant, no?

Is there oil in it? That would't be a good thing for electrics.

Ignition systems that stop working when wet are on the way out already imo.

I had one of those once - it was actually a pretty good car. I sold with something like.. 170,000 miles. I thought my asking price of $3200 was high but it sold in one day - and my phone rang for 6 weeks...

Oh and at one point it had an intermittant open in the coil, which of course Toyota doens't sell. They WILL sell a complete distributor......B

nope. 2.0L I'd guess at least 1 hp.

The WD40 is a petroleum product, and flammable. It's sitting overnight before I spend lunch wrenching on it.

If you ran it out of gas, you may have an air bubble somewhere in the line. Have you checked for spark, or are you assuming its ignition related?

Jason, Jerry's VW needs a trans. I was gonna take it but Chris needed it and I don't really have the time to fix it now anyway. It has a little body damage in the front but it's pretty minor.

I'll probably take it- if the Celica continues the no-start routine it will probably go back to the PO.

The battery is being charged now, I'm gonna pull the timing belt cover just to make sure it didnt let loose. There is a small oil pool at the top of each plug- I'm almost sure it needs a headgasket. I'm gonna squirt a little starting fluid into each cylinder and clean the plugs up tonight (If I can get the damn things outta the head- I have to use a 16" extension to get TO each plug and my socket wont hold onto them.. - sheesh. ) Maybe it'll fire up. I managed to locate and loosen 1 of the cap/rotor screws and squirt some WD40 in it, that may make a difference as well.

I'd LOVE to get this thing into my lot to work on- driving the mile or so each way to get a tool I forgot is a PITA>

(I'll let you know by Friday Jerry!)

You can use a length of hose to get the plugs out/in. Just loosen them with the socket, pull out the socket then grab the plug with the length of hose. To put them back in stick them on the hose again, lower them in the hole and start threading them into the head with the hose. That's the best way to avoid cross threading them, and you don't need no new fangled plug sockets.

What year VW do you need a trans for? I've got some older ones.

Give the Celica a few hours to dry out. Spray WD40 in there too. The WD stands for 'Water Displacement'.
Nissan Maximas are great cars, but a PITA to work on. I had a '93 SE that I traded for my Porsche It had 187,000 miles when I sold it nearly 3 years ago, and it had a dead lifter, so it sounded like a deisel... I put it in the classifieds, listed it for $3,000.00. It sold 2 days later to a Nissan Salesman! Bald tires, the alignment I describe below not done Engine parts painted blue, Muffler painted blue, horrid repaint, cigarette burns all over...The guy really liked the stereo, so he bought the car... I then went to my buddy's house with cash and picked up my 924S

Pete, be careful not to slide into a curb on ice... I did that one time, and needed to replace the A-Arm bushing, the tire and wheel. the only reason it didn't kill the A-Arm is because the damn nissan leaked all over the bushing so it disintegrated in the impact.

and to think, I actually had plans to rice it out...

Yeah, I had to replace a fuel injector and to get to it you have to remove the intake manifold and about a gazillion hoses and vacuum lines.

BTW I think I found a 020 9A tranny locally. Then it's a couple of "come-alongs" to pull the bumper frame out (per nine-44 and XSBoobs aka "the dent doctors") and we're good. Knew I had an extra headlight which I found this morning so all I need is LF fender. I have more dang parts for a car I'm getting rid of then for the rest of the"fleet"--except wheel sets (Tifo, Geo and Tom R are my inspiration there). Hijack over.
