Default Shift rod mod input please?

For those with a bit more experience with this - is there any reason why the shift rod/shift linkage setup uses that ridiculous divot/cone pin instead of a through bolt? I'm not real satisfied with the tolerance on teh 944 racing short shift kit and the factory tapered head bolt, and while talking about it with a buddy, we aren't sure why a through bolt or clevis style bolt wouldn't work (something with a cotter pin setup or a nut on the back side)....can anybody speak to this, it's been a week since I looked at it, and was thinking more along the lines of 'how do I get this stupid sheared bolt out' than 'how do I improve this'...

TIA

how about a drift/ roll pin, mine fits tight BTW and the 944 short shift is a joke I had problems with the block coming loose all the time tookj it the machine my customer owns and had him wire edm me one thats the perfect D shape of the shaft it fits very snug, I don't even need to bolt it, but I do. The hole in their block is round instead of of properly cut into a shape that fits the selector shaft

just drill the hole a little deeper in the ssk so the tapered bolt will sit deeper, that plus the locktite and safety wire and you will be fine.

badcoupe - you think they would have the template to make another one? Since the ssk is on the car, and the tranny isn't out, I'd be worried about not getting the exact tolerances so if they or you might still have the template, I'd be interested in buying one from you...

I can call him and see if he still as the program, if not I have another customer with a wire machine that could probably pop a few out. My tranny is out so I'll post a pic when I get time.

I would sincerely appreciate it - car is at the shop now, but I'm not up for paying him to drop the tranny at this point.

here's a kinda sorry pic of the block. I called chris and he no longer has his edm machine but I have another customer with 2 edm machines that may let me come in and use. I'm gonna try to find out tommorrow. These are really easy to install and are much better than that thing 944 sells

I assume it's a straight replacement for that block piece on the 944racing ssk? Or is this to replace the piece on the factory linkage?

Thanks in advance,

the block on the 944 racing $hitty shift kit. As you can the D shaped hole is a much fit than the round hole with a bolt inserted
