Default Squeaky clutch -- how do you quiet it down?

When I depress the clutch you can hear it squeak from the outsite (and inside) of the car. How do you fix this? WD-40 somewhere? Grease?

TIA,
Matt

There are some joints up under the dash that you can grease. I never could get mine to stop squeaking though. And yes, your exhaust and Blue S2's are the ones who sold me on the SFR for my 84.

If it makes that squeak, squealing noise when you step in the clutch, that's the pilot-bearing. No way to get rid of it without doing a clutch job.

Danno, Mine just started doing the squeeking when the car is running and you depress the clutch. It just started a couple days ago. But something has been hanging up for quite some time as the clutch really can't be fully disengaged.

No problem on the clutch job as that happens this weekend. I was afraid the pilot bearing may score the driveshaft or that it could be the throwout bearing going too and turning in the clutch fork tines. Both of which would be an expensive problem

So, you think it is just the pilot bearing? Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Danno,

The clutch was just installed when I put the engine in. It was a used (but in good shape) S2 clutch and bearing.

?

Thanks,
Matt

does it sound like a squeal or a squeak? They are totally different things. If you lie on your back and push the clutch in with your hand, you can hear a squeaky clutch pedal, and it's probably on the end of the spring mounts. Just lube up the area where the spring mounts to the pedal under the dash.

If it just happens when the engine is turning, it'd be a pilot or throwout bearing, wouldn't it?

Well, it could also be the torque tube bearings but those should go quite when the clutch is engaged and the drive shaft stops spinning IF it stops spinning. A buggered up pilot bearing or broken spring in there will keep the shaft spinning a bit unless you stop the car dead in its tracks.

Walk up behind it slowly , gaze at it with a nurturing and reassuring stare and quietly say "Shhh!"

It didnt work for me either, but I gave it a shot.
