Lightbulb Need Passenger Mirror!

Hey guys and gals,

I was driving my 86 944t yesterday when my passenger mirror just fell off and schattered. Just the mirror not the whole assembly.

Does anyone have one laying around, if so what do you want for it>?

Thanks.

When the mirror glass of one of my mirrors fell out, the other one did about 2 weeks later.

Take a look at the other one when you get a chance.

Dealership x 2. I think they were ~$50 each. It's a standard item they stock, because the flag mirror was common across several cars. My rationale was that a used mirror would have the same weak glue in it.

I bought mine from George at 944 Ecology, don't recall exactly but I think they were ~
$45 with shipping included. Both mine fell off w/in a couple of weeks of each other.

The good news is that it's already been 4 months since it happened, which means I only have 13.66666 years of bad luck left :-)

On a related topic too this post...how do you remove mirror glass from the mirror housing? I need to access the wire harness behind it. Do i just pry the glass off the base? I read that there is a locking gear at the bottom, but i dont see what that is refering too.

There is a hole in the bottom of the painted part of your flag mirrors. you stick a flathead screwdriver up there, so that the ridge of the flat head runs parallel with the length of the car. Then you stick it up the hole until it touches the plastic locking mechanism, and you push the top end of the screwdriver in towards the car's door, while still holding the screwdrive vertically. this causes the screwdriver to catch and turn the locking mechanism, unlocking the mirror glass from the mirror frame.

I may be wrong about pushing the screwdriver towards the car to unlock. it may be the otherway. if you have half a brain, you'll figure it out.

As for the ring. When facing the mirror as if looking into it-lefty loosey, righty tighty. And access is still from the bottom hole in housing as stated above.

I took both of mine to a local glass guy as they were both cracked. He cut and glued in 2 new ones for me for $8 a piece and glued them both in, still look great, that was 3 years ago, no problems to date...
