Default New Flywheel!!!

My flywheel from Powerhaus had a white residue that I tried to remove with brake cleaner and Actone but it still would not disappear. What are you suppose to use to clean the flywheel?

Thanks,
David

Try steelwool or a Scotchbrite pad, but with the cleaning you have already done it's ready for install

now that's a beauty. is it a lightweight? i ordered one from broadfoot - just waiting for it to arrive. where are the flywheel teeth? how does the starter engage the flywheel?

Yes it is a lightened flywheel from Powerhaus - steel flywheel but lightened. The ring gear goes around the pressure plate not the flywheel.

The ring gear bolts on when the pressure plate goes on, Nice flywheel by the way -- how much did it run you?

Not sure.. I purchased the clutch as a kit which includes the KEP pressure plate, 930 clutch disc, lightened flywheel, release bearing, rear main seal and other associated hardware. Not cheap but quality and rep are very good $1600.

it's only the s and s2 flywheels that have teeth, and they're for timing only. the ring gear on the pressure plate is what the starter turns

why do you want to clean it any further? Unless you're gonna serve Thanksgiving Turkey on it then I see why

Well, I don't want it to chatter and thougth I would show a pic of the residue incase there is some special method for cleaning the flywheel that I am not familiar with.

ah, yes, i stand corrected. i see the teeth on the starter ring now. so if my new flywheel does not have those teeth, will that affect engine timing or sensors?

The new flywheel I just put on my 951 had that same "residue". Looks like an acid etch of some kind, but it is smooth. I just did as you did (actually 2Tight did it for me :-) ) - clean it with brake
cleaner and its ready to install.

Did you experience any chatter or problems as a result?

Thanks!
