I pulled off the large nut at the end of the fuel rail, and a peice that was inside the nut fell out, there was that moment where you freeze, trying to hear if it makes it all the way through to the driveway pavement... no dice this time, and it fell right into the abyss area, the black hole of the 951 engine bay.... damn.... who knows what that was, who wants to tell me it is important, and who wants to sell me theirs?

That's the round sealing ball.

Looks like a ball bearing.

The fuel rail doesn't seal properly without one.

Kevin's right, it's a metal ball that seals the end of the fuel rail. You need it, look for it. It'll be easier to find it in the engine compartment than get one somewhere else. Maybe the dealer has one.

If you can't find one, I have some from junk rails from the parts cars.

are you sure it was a round ball? looked like a sphere to me... and I'm putting a pressure gauge there, so wouldnt that sealling ball render the gauge useless? Todd, am I going to be able to get just that peice from you?

Ball, sphere, same thing. It like a playing marble - a ball bearing.

Your fuel pressure gauge does not need the ball in order to work - if you look on the end of the rail threaded end, when the ball seats in there, the cap presses the ball into place, making the seal. If the ball were there when using your gauge, it wouldn't work.

When you re-assemble, make sure not to over-torque the cap!

Another trick I do when I drop something, is to drop another fastener from roughly the same starting place and watch where it goes. If it's not making it to the floor, sometime this helps to locate what you dropped.

If you are putting in a so-called "permanent" gauge, I guess you don't need the cap or ball.

If you are going to re-install the cap, you need the ball.
