Default Car out of shop, but maybe not right

I just got my car back from the shop. It went in for a no start problem, and so i had quite a bit of work done.

One of those things was the clutch. It shifts absolutely beautiful now, but has some problems.

In first gear it will not go above 4000 rpm.
2nd through fifth will not go beyond 3800 rpm. A redneck buddy says this is comman in clutches, you just need to let them break in. However my experience with this is things just break.

The shop will be getting it back Monday, just frustrating that i haven't been able to drive it in over a month.

I've never heard of that... You'd think it'd be able to...

What do you mean? does the engine max out at the revs?

Once i had a shop hollow out a cat on a 84 supra i had, they wouldnt cut it off for some stupid reason. Well they left some in it. A peice droped out and lodged in the muffler and it wouldnt rev above 5k rpms or so. It reved fast to 4k and then stopped.

Porschephile, no the engine does not max out, you can feel the car wanting to pull, it just won't. It feels like a big chain just catches the car all of a sudden. I know this is a weird way to describe it, but that's it.

Leading up to it you can feel the car start to strain, and then nothing. The car will actually loose rpm's as if there is an rpm limiter on it. (like in my 97 F-150, hit 95 and then nothing else happens until speed and rpm's drop.)

take it back to the shop....NOW
If you wait too long, they will claim its not their fault.
Let them find out what they screwed up.
