Question Cracked cylinder.....

I have an 84 n/a engine block with a cracked cylinder laying around my apartment collecting dust and was wondering if I should just pitch it or if there is any possibilty to have it bored out or sleeves installed or both So basically what I want to now is what are my options? Is the block junk? Can it be "saved" and how? And about how much? (hey its only money I cant take it with me when I die) Thanks

it's pretty much garbarge you're better off buying a used block.

I can be saved, but it's an expensive process for cylinder replacement, about $2000 or so... I'll take that block since I could use a couple of cracked ones for experiments.

Well, unless you find some turbo crazy guy who wants the block to sleeve it to 106mm or so for a project

Mike, I like your idea, but, I dont hink my brothers will go for it (I live with them). Danno, sounds good to me plus I have an extra oil pan, cylinder head and cam tower with cam but without lifters if you want those to. But first give me a day or two to mull it over as to what my course of action will be and if i decide to get rid of all this junk for free your first on the list.

I'll take any pistons/rods you may be pitching out. (Little project I'm working on..)

Danno, I will be tossing a block from a 87 S if you are interested. Dan P, I have the rods, crank, and the 3 pistons out of the S block also. I also have a 86 951 block with the crank, pistons, and rods still in it.

Well, after a closer look at the cylinder doesn’t appear to be cracked, but scratched on the cylinder wall instead. So I wanted to take it to a machine shop for an expert opinion and was wondering if anyone knows of a decent one in the Fishkill NY area with experience on 944 engines or the like.
