Thumbs up Tell me what Ive got...

I picked up an 86 951 for 800.00. It sat outside for 3-4 years. Right now its up on jack stands. I ve pulled 99% of the interior ... only the dash and 1 door remains. my plan is:

Recarpet and replace the seats with recaro or corbeau racing seats.
Install rollbar
replace speakers
momo steering wheel and pedals
rennbay boot and ***

on the exterior ive got the 2 front fenders, going to purchase the LR exhaust ( is it worth it to go with the dual port WG or does it make a difference?)
vaccum hose kit
hot air intake
long block rebuild (zotz automotive once i get the wheels/brakes back on)
LR header panel
Spec stage 2 clutch and lightweight FW
Guru chips? (havent decided yet)
18 inch 996 new style turbo wheels
Zimmermann drilled rotors

Now some questions ... Im not rich but im single so ive got some extra cash to invest in this sucker... what am I missing at this point in the game that i need to consider?

Also, apparently it already has Koni yellow shocks installed, was this factory or possibly something done by a previos owner? Also, when I told a local shop I wanted them to rebuild my calipers he goes "Are they the brembos or the other ones?" I said brembos and hes like "nah we dont mess with them, the kit is like 160.00 a piece" wow

so throw some advice/encouragement my way , ill try to post some pics of my progress, Im looking to tear up the roads of central florida sometime in the beginning of next year !

Try the turbo section of the forum, you'll get a lot more info there.

Many Corbeau seats are not SFI rated any more, if you plan to track, then shop carefully.

Dual port wastegate is a great upgrade, gives better boost control and more power.

Look at Vitesse Racing's chips as another option to Guru.

If you plan to track, avoid drilled rotors, they're junk.

Factory sport suspension was Koni yellows, but yours were likely added by a previous owner - post pics of them and we can answer that better.

Brake caliper rebuild is about 60 a caliper, the $160 price is because the full rebuild kit (including a new piston) is $40 per piston, and each caliper has 4 pistons. However, if you just buy the seals to rebuild, it's considerably cheaper.

You got a great deal, btw.

Good luck
Sam

No, they're made for the rice crowd so they can think they look cool
There's a sticker under the carpet near the spare tire that will have all the option codes for the car. Factory yellows are pretty rare but they're a very common upgrade.

There should be a sticker above the spare tire well that has the option codes the car came with originally. I believe you can also call a Porsche 1-800 number and have them tell you the option codes based on the VIN (i think!).

As for the drilled rotors, most will tell you they are overkill for a street application.

For the brakes, try http://www.goldlinebrakes.com/TechReport101.htm
The full rebuild (sans new pistons) of one caliper is ~$140

The options are on a sticker in the trunk. Remove the hatch carpet, and look at the area of the body in between the taillights. Write those codes down, and decode them online.

Cross drilled rotors are more of a show thing..

You said it sat outside for 3-4 years. What is the condition of the driveline? How about the electrical system? Both these areas are very very, VERY costly if neglected. 4 years outside probably played hell with the stock electronics.

You'll make a money trap if you try and hotrod a car that is not ready for it, or do it without planning. Single with disposable income means nothing... trust me. Go over the whole car with a fine tooth comb. Find out what factory stuff is broken and beat up, what stuff you can live without, and what stuff you want to replace. Make a list with of parts with dollar amounts on it. You'll find that $800 car will probably take 10 times as much as it is worth just to make it safe and reliable.

I plan on buying them since it will look nice when running 18's that are spread open. Also the only bad thing i have heard about crossdrilled is they tend to crack easier but i don't track my car so i don't see a problem.

Haha, trust me you are not "investing" you are throwing money into it, and while you will get a little return, not much.

Opeth,

Where did you get your avatar? I think that car was located in Florida as well.
