Default Blown Tanny in San Diego area .. HELP !!!

OK, I have blown the tranny ... I Think

It clunks in all gears .. It doesn't clunk when I'm coasting .. It doesn't clunk when I'm in Neutral with clutch in or out
So, I'm thinking that it's not the CV joints.. I have no place to swap tranny ..

So, anyone know of ( or have ) a early 944 5-speed in SoCal ???
Is there anyone out there can help me and maybe provide a place to do the swap ???
I live in an Apartment complex that doesn't allow any work being done..

I'm unemployed and think I can scrounge up come $$ for a used one, but in no way can afford to do a proper dealer or shop replacement or even buy a rebuilt one ...

Any suggestions or help ?????

Thanks again
Don

(edit) If anyone wants one... willing to do a GPS/DVD/MP3/Divx/TV/FM/touchscreen unit at or below cost for any help in this matter..

Try "Legoland951" here on the BBS. He always seems to have an over-abundance of parts. He is in the LA area, I think. Not close, but better than all the way acrossed the country.

Here's one in San Francisco... http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/car/47893887.html

I just did a tranny swap a couple of weekends ago in my apartment carport (my landlord doesn't give a damn). But I'm probably little too far away to drive on a bad tranny. After this month, I'll have a little free time and I'll help out when I can.

If those guys fall through I know a guy who has a perverbial 944 scrap yard and last time I checked had about 7 trannies lying around. His name is pete and he used to work for black forest. his number is 1-760-908-3881. It should still work but give him a call and he should be able to set you up.

I'm assuming that I have to stick with a pre 85 ( early ) 5-spd unless I can modify other things .. correct

Mines an early 85 built in 84.

there's also a guy in Oceanside that had some parts cars turned fixer uppers and he may have something..

AWolf, thanks for the number .. will give him a call. I believe that is close to me ( Rancho Bernardo / Carmel Mtn area )

Don, late transmissions will fit into the early cars. I don't have much time since I am in the process of possibly buying a 17k sqft commercial property but I think I can help you out. I have a late one (1987) I can have sell you for $450 including installation if you help me (hand me tools etc) while I am changing it out. At the same time you can learn how to replace them. It will probably take about 3 to 4 hours total or less so you can be back on the road right away.
