Installed new chip today
A few weeks ago Lumbergs Lackey mentioned a guy selling Weltmeister clone S2 chips for $25.
I jumped on that (total was $33 shipped).
The chip arrived in about 4 days.
Today Tifo and I took the car out for a baseline run with the G-Tech and did a few 0-60 runs.
The times weren't great but consider that I took it very easy on takeoff and there was about 415lbs of people in the car (I need to lose weight).
Stock chip 0-60 ---7.98 seconds
New chip 0-60-----7.45 seconds
If I didn't have a passenger and I really nailed the takeoff I'm sure I would have taken at least a second off the times. I think a mid 6 second 0-60 is very do-able.
Still, it's not bad for a 180K mile tired motor.
I had a stumble or shudder when I let off the gas and it is completely gone. The car feels much smoother and much more responsive and rev happy. i also had a "roughness" between 3500 and 6000 rpm and it is gone too. A nice little snarl was added to the exhaust note, also.
Tifo said he could feel the difference from the passenger seat.
For $33 I'm really happy with the chip. I doubt if the results would be any better with a $200 chip.
Pm me for the seller's email if you're interested.

Definetly an improvement! Now remind me to never attempt to crack open an S2 DME ever again. That was a total PIA.
We forgot to go do some runs in the red car! Maybe next time.................

I am ordering one tomorrow. I will be dyno testing my car as soon as i get it. I will post results.
Either way, for that price, you can't go wrong.
Oh, it hasnt changed or removed the rev limiter has it?

What is different about an S2 DME?

The late 944 N/A DME was a very simple operation, bend back a few tabs, pull the cover off, a couple screws on the top board undone and then it unfolds out and gives access to the chip.
Pete's box, once we got it open, had to figure out how to pop the top board out of the end plug configuration. The two little tabs we kept doinking with weren't allowing it to come apart. Hard to describe without photos. It certainly seemed more of a chore to me.
My car took about 5 minutes a few years back. Pete's took, what, seemed like about an hour or more, I think.

Now that I know what to do it will be easy.
Not sure on the rev limiter Tony. I did notice that the car will hit 60 in 2nd gear now.

I'd be nervous about using a no-name chip in my car.

Wait a sec...i missed that in the first pass... "It added a nice snarl!" I already have a nice snarl ???? A chip can alter your sound? What exhaust are you running? I wonder what its going to my sound with the SFR?
Added Note:
Its a Weltmeister clone? Well what are the specifics on a weltmeister? Anyone have the facts on that chip?

Blue S2, the chip will likley add a deeper tone too your exhaust. I recently switched from stock, to the FRWilk chip in my '87 8-valve 944. Idle does sound similar, but under acceleration i noticed a different tone. It sounds more aggressive and 'meaner' i guess you can say. Im not sure what type of changes it would have to a 16-valve engine though.

Well i guess we will all find out next week! I couldn't imagine my exhaust "more agrressive," but we'll see! Just as long as its not bumblebee-honda or UPS-truck American.

Definitely not bumble bee or UPS truck.
I notice mine because I'm used to how it sounded and I hear the difference. It's a little raspier around 6K rpm.
Does your car have that shuddering issue? Just the fact that that has stopped justifies the chip for me.
