I've been to, and quickly left, boards that were 'over organized'. Even when I had my 951, I'd visit THIS board 100% of the time I came to Rennlist, and the 951 board about 50% of the time. Split the way this board used to be, and I'd probably not visit either (even if I did have a P-car currently), well unless I had a specific question then it'd be the tech forum only. I suspect that a lot of people will feel the same (sounds like Matt and Devon already do), and it May not be the best for the group. Personally, I LIKE the mix of tech and OT stuff (as long as it was only mildly OT, move all the far-out stuff to the OT forum).

But that's just one persons viewpoint... and you can't look to satasfy the minority.

More or less, there it is. In some cases you might think there is more distinction between models than others, but this also takes into account historical usage. I think the less separation the better, but also think folks deserve a place to call their own. It should all be driven by need. I also think the shorter the category name the better. We don't need a label that calls out every model in the main 924/944/968 forum - we're all one big fat happy family, dangit (eg 924/924S/931/944/944S/944S2/951/951S/968)

All in my humblest of opinions, of course
no 912?

edit.. i see we would be a 911 sub forum..the 912 boards are comming around here and more and more people are posting there. putting it as a sub board under 911 would basically make it useless here because no one would look under 911 for 912 info.. we do not consider ourselves to be 911s.

I was kinda getting used to the split between "general" and "tech", but I like the new/old look and feel.

Jeez, I make one little suggestion, go away for a few hours and come back to this?

Thanks John for trying the split idea but it didn't feel right.
I'll clean up the leftovers and double posts.

I've been a little too tolerant of OT stuff on this forum and that is going to change now I think.
So folks, if you will, don't make my job too difficult, ok?
I think this is the best automotive forum in the world and we need to keep it that way.

EDIT- In clearing out some double posts I may have deleted a few things I didn't mean to (I'm still a newbie at this).
If I accidentally deleted something you feel was important, please repost it.

No one posts in the specific forums (except the 951 one of course).

The problem i see is that there is a large percentage off rennlisters who dont care about technical discussion and only respond to the OT threads. The 944 general discussion was meant to speed up the process of people getting help with their issues.

However, I dont think itll do any good to divide. I think we should just stick to the old format. Maybe create a thread requesting more participation in technical discussion?

John and Pete, thanks as always for the work you do. We love to complain but at the end of the day it has nothing to do with you guys.

I think Skip has got the idea for simplifying things. if the 944 sub forums were grouped with the main 944 board they may get used more.

I think it all comes down to the following:
1. People who are looking for serious technical help;
2. People who like to network and talk;
3. People who don't have a clue how to fix anything;
4. People who are very knowledgeable and are willing to help.

There really needs to be at least one spot where we can go when we are really in a bind and need help or advice. The previous all emcompassing forum was so busy with chat type posts that a serious question was on page 3 before anyone with a possible answer even saw it. If everyone would just put a little prior thought into the nature of their post the new format would work. The general forum should still be where everyone can bounce off the walls if they want; if it's a solution to a specific problem it would be nice if specific answers can be given. I guess what I'm saying is I think the Technical should stay. If no one responds, I guess it doesn't work but at least give it a chance. John and Pete are just trying to manage a huge task in the most efficient manner.

Off my Soapbox for now!

Agreed. what about newbies to the forum? do they just suck and let them figger it out- Hell - I cant function withall the changes. and I KNOW my way around.

It may be too difficult for a first time user to acclimate?

sorry, I'm crabby.

So where are we now?
As I have mentioned - I liked it the way it was better. But I am NOT opposed to change. I felt the original 924/931/944/951/968 Forum WAS the lounge area for everyone. Add a seperate tech forum for the 944 NA and I'd support that in a heartbeat, but I really liked the original layout better.
Now, having said that - I KNOW WHAT A PAIN IN THE A$$ IT IS TO WORK YOUR BUTT OFF AND HAVE SOME HALF WIT COME ALONG AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CHANGES! For that I apologize. This forum and those who create and maintain it are tops in my book.
