okay here goes. I have a wrecked early 1985 model n/a 944, engine is good. I also have a 1978 924 w/blown engine. Question: will the 944 engine fit the 924 frame. has anyone ever done this? Is wiring compatible? Also the 924 has a set of wheels I have never seen reference to. They are Dino 5 spoke wheels with made in Italy stamped inside one of the cut-outs. Are these worth anything, aftermarket, what?

Two completely different motors. What I can help with is you will need all the 944 harnesses. Bigger brakes if 4 lug. Not sure about the radiator if it can be used. Tranny is needed. And a lot of work to do the install. It will fit but it will depend on the mount locations etc.

Not hitchikers! Those 2 are MY race drivers diversionary subjects. This is how I will win races!

Hmmm, sounds like a swap I'd do. I wouldn't really suggest to do it, but, you could do the assembly line swap, pull the whole rear carrier, trans, front crossmember and drop the whole driveline with suspension on it. the gas tank would need to be swapped too, the pumps are different and the 924 has one in the tank also.

Since you already have a donar car, sounds like a bolt together operation to me. Start by stripping the 924 drivetrain, then strip the 944 drivetrain, and start bolting it back together. I'm with Andy, I'd do it.

The crossmember mounting locations are different. Most people think they can just swap the 944 crossmember (Which the engine mounts to) on the 924 body. Unfortunately, this is not true. You have to do a lot of custom fabrication on the 924 crossmember to mount the 944 motor onto. The 924 body is NOT MACHINED for the 944 crossmember. If you can get the engine to mount properly, everything else is fairly direct.

Thanks everyone!
I had already decided if it was possible at all to use the entire drive train. This is one of the best sites to get feedback, ideas, how-to's, of any forum I have visited. Must be the type of people who own Porsches.

It's mainly a crossmember thing...
Check out some diagrams that I got from the factory manuals:
Dimensions for Floor Plate/Front End
Another great place for resources on the subject of the 924 is http://www.924board.org
