Question 944 Factory Service Manual needed...

Hey guys, its me again. I called up Carousel Porsche(dealer for Minneapolis/St. Paul) and the parts dept was skeptical of being able to get ahold of the entire 6 vol set for the 944 series...and gave me an absolute no on the turbo supplement copy.
I also have been browsing the net(Ebay and various workshop manual sites) as well as calling a few 944 specialty shops(Paragon, 944online, and Lindsey)...and for the most part all I can find are the manuals either on microfische or cd.
I was wondering if anyone on the board would be willing to sell their hard copies of the 944 series manuals along with the turbo edition-or I'd appreciate where I could get them just as much.

Thanks again.
Chris

Wish I could help you.. My best advice is to continue to try eBay and also craigslist.org (if you're in California). I spent a few months trying to track them down, and sitll only have the first 4 volumes...

You can get one of the PDF versions and have a local Kinkos print and bind them for you if you're just looking for a nice printed set to use.

That's probably the most cost effective solution at this point. They price of these have gone up 200-300% in the last year. Wish I hadn't sold my 7 book set for $200 two years ago (still have a 4 book set and a 924 set - have to have them for SCCA IT racing).

I haven't either. I bought hard copies. Don't know the going rate for them.

Are you building a race car or doing a restoration?

I'm doing a restoration....sort of, taking some much needed advice and doing some repairs myself instead of having a repair shop own my paycheck for the next few months....

I figured that's what I might have to do....I found a site that seems to have 6 volumes already in PDF format for download:
1)944 engine (8v)
2)944 engine (16v)
3)944 transmission
4)944 chassis
5)944 electrical (to '87)
6)944 electrical ('87 on)
7)Turbo
8)PET5....

I dunno what the heck PET5 stands for, but I went to Kinkos last night to try a couple of them out. Seems the engine manual for 16v comes up in code jibberish, but the chassis came out fine. Going back in a couple hrs to try and put the whole thing on disc then have them print and bind.

Thanks again for the suggestion and ill let you know the total price for the binded work....should be less than the $865 and $942 prices I've found online....

We appreciate that you are trying to share info with folks here. However, sharing the web-link for downloading Porsche manuals is a copyright infringement. This may jeopardise Rennlist and the community here. I strongly recommend you delete the link in your earlier post.

Whoops, sorry about that. Its not too insanely tough to find though.
And also realised the PET is the OEM parts catalog...

Print out the writeups on Clark's Garage too. Between the two you should be pretty much covered.

PET is the Porsche Dealer Parts software program, allows you to look up diagrams and part numbers for nearly every part on the car, VERY handy to tell how something goes back together or if you're missing a part, or for looking up a part number to order.

Question

I've installed PET on my laptop and it disables the 'Standby' mode. I can't do without that feature, so I removed it. Does anybody know a fix to this problem?

When I bought my car I rang Porsche Australia and asked them where I could buy a set of 944 factory workshop manuals the guy on the phone said (in a very snobby manner) that "Porsche would not sell their manuals to members of the public" as if I was some sort of incompetent.
Next day I bought a pirate CD set on the net for $20 what did they expect.
I would have been happy to buy a genuine set for many times that price. Fools!!!
