Default My widebody panels...

Anyone know how much do the stock front quarter panels weigh each? How about the rear? I recieved my front widebody fiberglass panels today in the mail from GT-racing, and they only weigh 4 lbs each. I am not that thrilled with the condition of the panels either ...... In the event I decide to keep them- is fiberglass difficult to repair- would it be worth my having a shop do the repairs? Thanks

I don't have exact weight for you, but stock front panels felt around 10-15lb when I was unloading them from my racecar (spares). Not very heavy. I'll wait for your fiberglass pics, but the fiberglass ones on my racecar (which I didn't install), clearly look like they took some work to get to fit and look good. Unless there's shipping crack damage or holes, it's probably normal on your panels. Fiberglass doesn't bolt right on, ever. Expect cosmetic blems that your paint shop needs to fix, and expect labor time to get parts to fit right.

1) you pay a restocking fee with GT-R
2) FG should be fairly easy to repair
3) imagine what will happen in an accident

I would hope that GT-R wouldn't charge a restocking fee if their product arrives damaged, but we'll see, I left a msg on their machine. Besides the condition of the panels, they also charged me $100 extra for the panels on my credit card... buyt thats another matter. I will talk to a body shop and see what they have to say.

Funny, my stuff arrived in great condition and mounted up with few modifications. (We used part of the inner metal mount which sits flush with the body in front of the door to make the fender more secure.) I wish I had gone widebody but couldnt afford to do the whole car. When I do I'll offer my fiberglass ones (in black) for sale. ECU I'd just have the body shop mount them up, that's not a hard fix for any competent shop.

GT Racing sells the panels mostly for racing. If you are racing the car then a non-perfect fit and blemishs are not a big deal. Your first track day will cause enough chips to not worry about it.

Here is the front end of my 944-spec after about 5-6 two day race events.

Looking at this makes you forget about imperfectios in the fiberglass.

hah, wow. Well I am not putting a fiberglass front on. I talked to a body shop today, and they said they almost always have to prep fiberglass, that it rarely arrives in bolt on condition. I had an appt Wed for them to put my rear Euro bumper on, so I am just going to go ahead and have them put on the fenders too I guess.

Its called GT "Racing" for a reason. Their stuff is fine for racing, but streetable fiberglass (aka Corvette weight) weighs about twice what sheetmetal does and has less than half the strength. Racing weight fiberglass will spiderweb like crazy, and will take more weight in plastic filler that you'll save and still require periodic resprays.
