Default Weekend fun

After a weekend of wrenching on the 944, it is running great.

Friday night started at 7pm. Should have started at 5 but a friends mustang was being worked on (New exhaust) and the pipe bender was taking so long to get it exactly right.
So we start at 7...two projects: New rear in '70 maverick Grabber, and new waterpump/timing belt/timing idler/timing tensioner.

I only worked on the p-car, so I don't know how things went on the maverick, only they didn't finish by the time we did, which was 3:30 am. Most of the work went smooth, except removing the back of the timing housing, when you have to pull off all the pulleys. It was long and tedious (lining up timing marks, etc.) but in the end, it's worth the peice of mind.

Anyway, Saturday went by no problems (Except getting to bed at 4am...)

Then Sunday comes and I'm driving for about an hour, and about 20 seconds from home smoke starts to come out from under the hood. "Oh crap" I think to myself. The temp gauge only reads half temp, so I'm not fully worried. I open the hood and there is coolant all over, bubbling and dripping. So I check some things out, but can't figure out what it is at home. So I run to the garage quick to check things out. Find two loose clamps, tighten them, and bravo! she's running like a dream again.

Another thing that made the weekend Porsche filled was Saturday when I got off work I found a buisnesscard on my windshield for the CPA PCA. I think I'm going to join in a few days...Anyway, I'd love to post pics, but unfortunately the pics were taken from someone else's dig camera so I won't see them for a few days.

And I have one question: What will happen if I merely remove my P/S belt?

You wont have power steering. The amount of force you have to exert will be significantly higher than a regular manual rack since the ratio wont be favorable. Its generally not recommended.

Keep fluid in the resevoir. All that happens is you get a workout parking the car. As long as there is fluid in there it should be fine.

I had my belt off two weeks or so after buying my car, havent even thought about putting it back on.

Is any power gained through this? Or would I have to add the manual rack to gain the power lost due to P/S?

Then yes, with the 302 :-). Very nice, clean ride. Enough power stock without the heavy modification the Comet went through...
