Default Supercup centers back from powdercoat..now wont fit! *Pics*

Got the 18" Kinesis Supercup centers powdercoated. They did an amazing job but now the powdercoat is too thick and the wheel centers wont drop back into the wheel halves. Im going to call the powdercoater to see if they have any ideas as they have probably ran into a similar problem before- My only idea was to strip the edge and paint the edge a gloss black or silver just so the metal isnt exposed. Then there would be a seam though... It would barely be noticeable however and my only solution at this time?

Any one else have any ideas...if not enjoy the pics. One way or another, they will be back together!

Is that one wheel in the background put together? It might be possible to smooth/sand the wheel and not the center. Just a thought.

Well the rear wheels were "backmounted" so the centers dropped right out the bottom of them (wheel stays sealed together) whereas the fronts were sandwich mounted and the seal had to be broken. -so the wheel in the back is a rear w/o a center.

Mike, I thought about that but figured it would be hard to make it wider and retain its perfect "roundness" But...note taken, Im all ears at this point!

I had my rims and center caps powdercoated... they needed to cool down before they would fit...

Looking great Sam! I don't know if this is smart, but you could try putting the centers in the freezer and then heating the rims, that should give you some extra clearance. I don't know what will happen when they both reach ambient temps though.

Who did your powdercoating? How much did it run you?

Max,
Indy Powdercoating. www.indypowdercoating.com

It was $280.00 to have them strip/mask/powder 4 wheels and 4 centercaps. They are near flawless, the color is "Black Chrome"

Hmmm, the freeze/heat idea..I wonder if that would give enough clearance.

Stahlblau- Thats another option, not removing all of the coating but leaving just enough so they fit.

Thanks for the nice words guys, I really hope to get this cleared up so I can drive my car again!

ooohhh! Nice! I wonder how a set of Fikse FM-10's would look done that way...

Sam, try the heat/freezer trick, if that doesn't work, go after it with 400 grit sand paper. There is too much risk in using a dremel (I've seen way too many folkks get carried away when using Mr. Dremel).

Regards,

Just talked to the powdercoater and although they havent had this problem before, they are confident they can sand down the edge to get them to slide together. Im heading over around noon. Hope it works!
