I bought a "new" 87 convertible toy 2 weeks ago too. On the track 10 years ago, I timed my n/a 944 against my 85 4 speed (+3 overdrives) and that 230 hp vette was slower than the 150 hp 944 n/a because its so hard to control the low end torque and keep that early vette from spinning. I believe they revised the 88+ vette rear suspension so it was more stable. Be careful if you are new to the v8 torque because its my understanding that generation of vettes has a very high death rate in wrecks (something about the heavy hood going through the windshield).

Feel like you are driving the bat mobile, visibility out the front is horrid. I drove a 96 LT-4 off and on in college (belonged to my roomate/bestfriend), hated it. Now, I would have to consider a ZR-1 but only for days when I felt like punishing myself.

Cool looking car Lego. I always thought that series of vette looked real good topless.

I've shopped for vettes a time or two. Wife hates 'em though, so I guess I'll have to stick with what I've got.

Thanks Red1, but hey, I can't complain for $3800 especially when it gets 27 mpg highway and 19 mpg mixed driving with 230 hp for a convertible. I can't believe this thing actually got an average of 27 mpg from L. A. to San Diego (verified by both the amount of gas put in and the onboard digital computer). That's better than my 944 most of the time.

I would take a 944 over an 80's vette anyday. I would rather survive in a crash then die in a piece of plastic. THats right plastic. All that car is plastic aka fiberglass.

Haha, that coming from a guy who rides a 2 stroke rz.... I had a RD in the 80s and not knowing how to ride a 2 stroke, almost looped it over my head. BTW, fiberglass is not plastic.

i hope you don't think the 944's sheet metal body is structurally significant in a crash...
