Angry Dealer is trying to rip me off!

The dealer who did my water pump/timing belt change charged me for three rollers.

944-105-273-02
944-102-277-06
944-105-241-03

and two tensioners

944-105-027-04
944-102-025-07

There's only two rollers right? That first one (944-105-273-02) is for the old water pump. He's telling me the new water pump needs an additional roller. I asked him where that new roller would mount. He had no answer.

Should I tell him he's full of crap or am I wrong somehow?

So there's no way all three of those rollers are installed right?

Not possible.
Only the first timing belt tensioner should have been used.
If they billed you for both, go back there and get the other one! =)
Or get your money back.

Well, I went over to the dealer and even talked to the mechanic who did the work. He insists that the new style water pump requires an additional roller 944-105-241-03 which is attached to the pump itself.

I guess the only way to find out for sure is to pull the covers this weekend and see what I've got. If there's only two rollers in there, look out!

Hahahahaha, that guy is full of crap.
I wonder where he installed the 3rd roller!
His story might have a tiny bit of truth to it, I believe when you update the waterpump, you have to use the newer timing belt roller, but you can't install both.

Is he talking about upgrading an older pump to the new spec?

Only one timing belt tensioner (944.105.027.04) is listed, the other (944.102.025.07) is the balance belt tensioner. if it helps, 944.102. denotes parts used for the balance shaft belt and 944.105. denotes parts for the timing belt.
944.105.273.02 and 944.105.241.03 are mutually exclusive.

Yes, the latest and greatest turbo water pump was installed.

It's only like $30. It's just the principle of the thing. I don't want to pay for things that aren't there.

That's what I told him. He insists both are in there.

Tell him to take one out because they don't both belong in there.

I don't know if it's still accurate but last I heard, list price for 944.105.273.02 is $29.63 and list for 944.105.241.03 is $42.84. did they charge you for any other parts to convert to the new style (little metal fence thingy, etc)?

Those prices are almost right on. The guide bar was included with the pump. I took a diagram of the balance/timing belt and had him draw where this new roller was placed. He drew it between the water pump pulley and the timing belt tensioner. I don't think it could physically fit in there.

There isn't any kind of roller on the guide bar is there? It's just a hunk of metal, right?

From Clarks Garage:

Nothing's gonna fit between the water pump pulley and the timing belt tensioner.

There are 2 tensioner pulleys and 2 idler pulleys. That's it.

Diagrams of all models of 944 & 968 can be found here.

Talking

Step 1: Announce the dealership's name in first post, LIKE THIS.
Step 2: Crosspost to other forums.
Step 3: Obtain names and email addresses of management at dealership.
Step 4: Forward them a link to this thread. Enjoy the entertainment that $30 bought you.
Step 5: Forget about it and move on. $30 is not worth your time and agony.
