Default Interior light questions

Greetings,

some questions about interior lighting...

1. Both the hatch light and the interior light between the visors are suddenly out. They were both working, but in the last few days....
- I was fiddling under the dash with some sereo related stuff
- I disconnected and reconnected the battery during this time and may have had a quick short happen
- I changed out the rear shocks/struts

Anyone know if the hatch and visor area lights are on the same fuse and where it is located? Would be kind of nice if it was just that simple.

Any other ideas? - please note that as I write this I haven't checked the bulbs I just find it odd that both quit working at the same time

2. Glove box switch and bulb seem to be spent. Switch just doesn't have enough spring to close the connection on opening the glove box door. Are replacements cheap and easy to come by? Paragon? Pelican? someone else? repair it myself? spring from an old fashioned ball point pen anyone?

3. What is a good source for 944/968 bulbs for under the hood, hatch, visor, glove box etc... Can I get them at any auromotive store or do I have to special order?

Thank you,

Phil

Phil,
The light under the hood only works if the headlights are on.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the info on the hood light. I didn't know that, so I'll check that first.

Also I read several posts late yesterday that indicated that this could be a fuse and that removing the glove box - which I did - can lead to a short situation since the glove box switch is exposed and can be shorted when the glove box is removed. So, after the caffeine goes to work I'm going out to the garage to play hide and seek with my fuses...

Yep, the glove box is on the same fuse as the interior lights. When I removed mine, I was lucky, didn't short it, but on the re-installation.... I'd start with the fuse.
I think you can find the bulbs at any parts store, if they are the problem, just bring an old one with you.

Dome, hatch, glove box lights, and clock are all on the same fuse.

my under hood light does not require my headlights to be on. all i have to do is just open the hood.

It was definitely the fuse...

I went to the fuse box. Scanned the nicely organized diagram, pulled the fuse and discovered it shot, replaced it and.... Eureka! There was light(s).

Thanks to all,

Phil

Yup, Fuse 11#, always the culprit for this issue.

Default More Interior Lighting!

How many of you feel the 9xx series cars need more lighting? Be HONEST!

The driver of any 944 will complain the interior lighting is at best- weak...

These cars need at least FOUR new lights added to the stock units, to be remotely practical to us, right? Now, where can they go?

Now, I'm starting to look at VW/Audi OEM lighting at the boneyards, because they are identical to Porsche lamps. Even the cigarette lighter could use better
illumination- smokers always burn their dashes when returning the lighter inside the darkened cabin, at night.

I recently had interior lighting issues and went to check the factory service manuals for some wiring diagrams. No, I don't have originals, I have them on CD, and for whatever reason the Interior Lighting section (#96) is missing. Any reason why? Mistake?

I have the same problem on my 84....no clock, lighter, interior lights, glove box light, etc.....I lost them during stero install, too....keeps blowing the fuse (#7) immediately (short)....I drove the car all summer without this stuff.....I plan to investigate this short over the winter....
