Smile New Finger Pull On Door Handle?

Hey guys,

My finger pulls on both of my door handles are chipping pretty bad. Is there a way to buy just the finger pulls and put them in or do I have to buy the whole door handle?

Thanks as always!

You'll have to get the whole door handle. There's a pressed/peened pin that is very hard to remove but probably can be done. Problem is most salvage door handles will suffer the same problems as the one you are replacing. Why they made them out of pot metal like some cheap toy escapes me. I've broken two in the last month on my 83. The pivot pin is on the lower left of the photo.

LOL, yeah, thats what I am thinking of doing.....

Sanding the finger pull with a dremel sander and then covering the entire car with a car cover and priming the finger pulls and then painting them....

I think it would be easier to just pull the handle off and have a good angle to spray it for good adhesion. On the car you'll never get the backside where your fingers are. I can get a handle off in 10 minutes, I can't mask a car in that time. Don't laugh, those appliance refinishing epoxies are pretty good if they have a color you can live with. Apply a good primer, top coat with a canned epoxy spray, and it will last far longer than a month. If you are a painter ignore this post because there's always a better way. The 2-part catalyzed stuff will outlive the car.

how about powder coating them? Would that last much more than regular paint?

Here we've got a range of shops called Golfwagen they sel replacement handles at ZAR50 (thats about $7.69) each, I heard that you can get them fro a VW dealer at a very reasonable price too. It might even be a good idea to get a pice from Porsche it might be less than you think.

Yep- works just fine. I did that last weekend, I used trim paint and did the B pillars on the doors, Also the black screws for the roof rack, the rear wiper delete plug, a few other bits that should have been black...
