I like the 997's front end....it looks more like a 911 than the 996 did... it's such a sexy car..

I didn't like the fact that the 996 and the boxster had generally the same nose. I didn't think it was ugly by any means like some seem to, but the indifference of the two, greatly different models annoyed me. so the 997 nose gives it a significantly different look.

I have 2 big posters of both side to side; makes the 996 one look ugly. I dont necessarily like te 997 tailights, but i dont like the 996 ones either. The 996 c4s was BEAUTIFUL though, with the red light connecting both taillights.

I like the idea of the new 997 front end, but I think the execuation could have been better. I don't like where Porsche chose to cut the fender and bumper lines at all. They do not flow like the 996 did. That to me is more important than what shape the headlights are.

I like the 997. The looks of the 993 but with water-cooling.

And all the associated problems, like radiators, hoses, water pumps, etc. No thanks, my next car will be air cooled. Replace a few water pumps and thermostats and I wonder why they ever thought water cooling was a good idea!

The 996 was a styling mistake.

I read the 996 styling was a cost saving measure. for about 3 years, the boxster and 996 shared thousands of dollars worth of body parts.

You'll find out the disadvantages of air cooled like valve guide wear and leaks in oil lines.

But sticking to the subject, the 997 face looks much better. At least you can recognize it right away as a 911 when it's coming at you. I might have to go for a test drive.

Stooge, voted dont care, I like them both. Back off track, I have done some water pumps that took as long as pulling a 993 engine!

Talking

interesting responses.

most 996 owners, the most popular porsche sports car ever, prefer the post 2002 996 look to the 997. i hope the 996 is equally popular because i value porsche as an independant company.

as for air cooled engines, i don't miss them, especially "heat exchangers" which always rusted and were always poor at heating. the power's survey figures for porsche are even ahead of lexus most years. this never happened with the old air cooled engines, of which i owned 5! ' '

That's news to me, do you have sales figures that demonstrate this? I would have guessed the 996 was not even in the top 3.

I share Dave's sentiment. At the very least, if we go on Porsche sales numbers alone, hasn't the Boxster sold in higher numbers than the 996?
