Default ceramic brake pads

Has anyone tried ceramic brake pads for street use? They claim better braking, less dust and less noise. And no harm to existing rotars. So has anyone trie these on thier porsche or any other application. They are more $$$ but claim to last longer.Online has them for just about every car made, including 944s.

a bit of salt to go with it; my understanding is that once you have used ceramic pads on a set of rotors; you must forevermore use ceramic pads on those rotors. This is because a significant part of how the ceramics work is that they embed ceramic into the iron rotor, allowing adhesion between rotor and pad upon brake application. Go back to standard pads; and the ceramic in the rotor will lower braking power and tear up the new pads.

I think ceramic pads are great technology however, and will probably be putting those on next brake pad change.

I've used ceramics on 2 other cars for a while now. I noticed similar stopping to stock pads with worse initial bite, but very little dust and no noise. I have never heard patrat's point that you can not change back from ceramics - in fact, I've done it many times between street and track.

IMHO they are designed for Sam's last two points, very quiet and little dust. In the mass market industry THAT is what you strive for, not the absolute best of braking.

Generically, since you don't mention the brand, ceramic pads will last longer and run cooler. In some cases they will dust less but this is really dependant on what pad you are referring to and the relative ceramic content. The ceramic material, in and of itself, is not the overwhelming factor in pad effectiveness - it is the mix of specific materials, backing plate, adhesive and the manufacturing process. Similar is the comparison of casting to forging or the different methods of fiberglass and carbon fiber component construction.

I use Raybestos QS - Quickstop or Quietstop, I forget what it stands for, but it's available at Pep Boys and I believe Checker? Don't know if they're available for our cars, I've never looked.

Sorry for the delay. All Pagid High Performance pads have a relatively high ceramic content. Also, the new PBR Ultimate pads make effective use of ceramics.
