Default 10 Speaker System Removal '89 Turbo (Pictures)

I keep getting e-mails asking me for pictures of my stereo/speaker job this summer. So here goes for the pictures and key words for those searching:

- 10 speaker system
- ten speaker system
- speaker removal
- rear speaker removal
- will my speakers fit
- fitting new speakers
- darn suckers won't fit

If anybody can think of any other key words post them:

So there is a tweeter in the back then...thanks! Now I know what I need to get to replace my rears when I do it. The other speaker in the back is a 6.5" right?

The pics are definitely a big help, thanks! Do the grilles over the front tweeters just pop off?

Cory, what speakers are you replacing them with? Brand and part numbers please.
Your door speakers look to be in good shape. Wanna sell 'em?

Thanks for the link to this thread Eddie- I have seen all of this,. BUT, those are GREAT pictures.... thanks Gobogie for that- I'm saving them for future reference.... I didn't have a digital cam when I went through mine, plus, I did not remove the 1/4 glass- PITA either way, but, you DEFINATELY have a TON better access w/it out....

Are you referring to the tweeter grills? I'm ASSUMING you mean the ones under the armrest? IF tweeters- there are prongs- I'm not sure as I have 968 panels & those tweeters are dif- I've only had them off by removing the whole panel- the Turbo S tweeter grills are dif- they have prongs- not sure if thye can pry off (CAREFULLY) or if you have to remove the panels- from Gobogie's pics, it looks like you can just pry them off- did I mention CAREFULLY? Those prongs are EASY to break- my driver side was always falling off b/c the idiot PO had broken two of them...

OK- if you're talking about the grill UNDER the armrest, which I assume you are, then, the WHOLE pocket comes off- just simple screws along the bottom edge- the pocket is the same pocket as used on all 944's- 968 is dif- has taller map pocket- anyway, the grill is simply screwed onto the backside of the pocket w/little screws....

The REAR grill is tough- you have to either remove the 1/4 window to gain access, which is the correct way to do it, as the panel is tucked into the window seal, OR, you pull the trim seal from the bottom, work it up to the bottom of the window height & just bend the HELL out of the panel- this is what I did- carefully.... then, if you want to remove the grill, it is screwed into the backside- it has a TON of them too- as if Porsche really thought it was gonna go somewhere.... oh yeah- there ARE a few screws in that panel that have to come out regardless of which method you use- they are along the edge & easy to soppt- only a couple of them...

OTHERWISE, the only other possible grill, for a 944, is the 4x6 grill at front of the panel- I'm not sure at all how it comes off, but, worst case would be to have to remove the door panel, which is very easy- the only tough thing here is replacing it in that there are three screws in the armrest- you have to angle them in right & screw them through just right... kind of a PITA, but, not too tough....

I guess I've covered all possibilities- if not, let me know & I'll see if I be of further help...
