Default Someone explain this electrical gremlin to me.

I flip the switch on the rear hatch light, in the hatch area, and my driver's side mirror moves up and down.

WTF???????

Aftermarket alarm? Maybe someone tapped into the wrong wires? Cellphone or other aftermarket accessory? Bad ground or pinched harness. If you flip the switch to the passenger side mirror, does the problem move to that side, or does it only do it on the driver's side, or does it do the driver's side always no matter what the switch position.

If you have power locks, there may be some wires touching in the door jam, the power locks work along with the interior light switches. This is why you can only lock them with the door closed.

Speaking of power locks, i have the central locking switch on the central dash (where the switches are located) but when i removed the driver's side door panel, there were no microswitches or wires showing a central locking system........or should i take a look at the passenger side as well?

P.s. the central locking switch IS connected........

wire should come out of the door handle iirc.

There is the white wire(actually 3 wires in a white sheilding) that comes out of the handle and goes to the bottom of the door and up in the front to the harness. Should also be a black metal box(kinda) cover at the rear of the door about midway up, the door solenoind should be under it, this actuates the door locks.

No.. I figured out it's because I had wired the mirrors slightly wrong, and I fixed it now.. BUT the question remains... Why would incorrect wiring on the mirrors, which are on a TOTALLY separate wiring loom, be affected by the HATCH LIGHT?

everything else seems to work fine, except the power locks, but that is because of a worn toggle switch inside the door handle. again, nothing to do with nothing, yet it still seems to affect something else that it shouldn't. damn krauts!
