Default Won't hold washer fluid

My 944 won't hold windshield washer fluid, it just leaks out under the car. Do I need a new washer tank (if so, how hard is it to install?) or is there a connection that just needs to be tightened?

The only hoses go out the top, so I'd say you need a new tank. It took me a while to conclude that it would only come out by going down and out through the bottom. After deciding this, it was about a 30 minute job, straightforward. Mine's an 87 and it seems as though earlier cars have a different, smaller tank, which may come out the top, I'm not sure

mine does the same, it leaks at the seam... i havent gotten around to replacing it yet... still trying to decide if it should be a windsheild washer tank, or if i should make a water injection kit or something.

The tank comes out of the bottom. You need to lift the car a little bit, disconnect the headlight motor, (13mm IIRC), raise the lights manually and keep them proped up, then you can slide the tank out from underneath.

I repaired my tank twice before I replaced it. I used 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive - EXTREMELY nasty stuff to work with - like crazy string, but much worse, and it will stick to whatever you are working with to spread it (like the tip of the dispensing tube).

In both cases, the repair held for 2-2.5 years, but also note that I used water only in my tank. I don't think you would have the same luck if you have to use real WW fluid.

Tank replacement is the best long-term option.

I repaired the crack in my washer tank by using an epoxy compound with the consistency of butter. Drilled holes along the crack every half inch, widened the crack with a Dremel round cutter, mixed up the epoxy and smeared the goo along the crack and into the holes. The holes were filled with epoxy and mushroomed out on the inside of the tank, keying it all together. It worked really well, no more leaks. Let it set up for 48 hours. Tank came out of the bottom easily on my 1983 as no power steering pipes, etc, to interfere with the job. Should say it was on a hoist as we were doing the oil cooler gasket.seals at the same time.

5 minute epoxy will be a decent fix for a few YEARS. If it's a seam and you want more strength, add a little "kitty hair" fiberglass while mixing the epoxy.

Some cars have the headlight washer pump located on the bottom of the tank, held in by a rubber grommet washer thingy. My grommet was hard and cracked and leaked just as yours is doing, so i ended up pull the pump and grommet, and installed a rubber plug of similar size and RTV'd it....hasnt leaked in a year.

If the hoses are in the cap put a plastic bag in the tank. Hold the bag in place with the cap. Temp fix should work for a while. THen replace the plastic bag.

Do you have headlight washers?
That's what was wrong with mine. Once the hose goes into the bumper, there is a plastic tee that cracked.

If it's the tank that cracked, I've seen a few tanks that were epoxied with a pretty good success rate.

I fixed mine with some epoxy and coated it with silicone seal.
