My 86 944 does the same thing, as the temperature goes down the amount of hesitiation goes up. Usually clears itself up after a minute or two and only at low engine speeds. Also, until warmed up the engine is very sluggish and the acceleration is very weak. Might be related, might not be.

Try some BG 44k. it's an engine cleaner that ya put into the gas, and it cycles thru. great stuff....it actually cured my hesitation problem for a couple of weeks...then I bought new plugs, and that fixed it for good. but 44k is great stuff to use anyway.

Louis: The throttle body screws are okay. The problem changes with the weather and how hot the engine is. I've tried checking all the easy stuff like the hose connections and all that. Unfortunately, there was no luck on that, so I have to spend some money to get this fixed (new parts).

I will try some degreaser/injector cleaner, and if all else fails, I may have the injectors professionally cleaned and benched to get them flowing right again. Thats coming after a new cat and AFM thoguh

definilty pull the AFM and check the wiper tracks.

I had an issue on my 944-spec car. It would get complete power loss at the worst times. Not fun. At much seaching I traced it to a bad AFM. Using FR Wilk's website and directions I adjusted the AFM wipe tracks adn the problem is gone. Time was about 1 hour and cost was $0.

I'll have to try that - now that I have about 3 spares that sort of work! The problem is that all the spares I bought (ebay) have had corroded boards, or other problems like that. I'm ready to just buy a new one and get it over with at this point.

In a surprising turn of events, I found an AFM cheaper than Paragon ($500 + 50 core). Where was this at you might be asking yourselves?
THE DEALER had them for $434 rebuilt!!

check FR Wilk's site - there is info on the resistance and everything on there - or you can replace everything else and see if the problem persists :-D

I have had an extremely rough idle problem, except mine is kinda different. Occasionally when I start my car, it would be very very rough. When revved the vibrations went away, and when I started moving it hesitated badly. If I hold the accelerator at about 5500 rpm for a little while it USUALLY went away, if that didnt do it I would just wait about 1.5 minutes and try it again. Never did it for any longer, until one day (last week) it started doing it in mid-driving (never happened before, usually only at start up) then got real bad, I gave it gas and it died. And wouldnt start up. Still trying to figure it out, and yes, tried a new AFM.

that may be a fuel issue or O2 sensor. Replace the fuel filter and the O2 sensor if you haven't already and see if that helps. That should only be about $60 in parts.

Tried new fuel filter. Opened up fuel rail and its definitely gettin fuel. I think its spark, so I changed the coil/wire/plugs and it fires without the intake boot(broke) and the afm not plugged in. So hopefully it will fire right up tomorow when I get the new boot put on and the injectors resealed and cleaned out. It fire up this morning but wont stay running cause the boot and afm arent on.

I cured a nagging rough idle/hesitation problem by installing new PROPERLY GAPPED plugs. My old plugs looked fine, but were way above the gap tolerance.

Really? Hmm... was it a completely random hesitation/rough idle problem, as in only occassionally it would creep up? I just put in Bosch Platinums and they appeared to be gapped correctly... Tell me more!

Quick question... My car is running pretty rich, and my tech beleives the air flow sensor is the problem...would retracking it fix this?

Change to copper plugs! I ran Bosch Platinums and at 5k miles the car ran like crap! I changed them everything is now fine!
