Default My first time on the Tail of the Dragon (pics)

Sunday Ashton (Campeck), Brad (ilikemy944), and Brian (my manager from work) went out to the Dragon's Tail for a little spirited driving fun! I had NO IDEA how rediculous this road was in terms of fun. THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN (318) CURVES IN ELEVEN MILES!!!! It would have been perfect if my 944 hadn't completely **** on me by losing the shift linkage on the way back! It was funny, me and Ashton were going to make a flyby video and I take 2nd hard and all of the sudden my shifter turns into a rubber chicken!!! Luckily I had downhill momentum to make it to the rest of the guys and pull off into one of the gravel traps. I was about to flip because I thought I totally lost the tranny, and Ashton, being the mechanical GENIUS that he is, jacked it up, peeked under there and reconnected the linkage for me in a matter of minutes (thank you soooo much dude). So through all the rain on the drive up, and the drive back, we all made it home late, but safely, and now I'm in the process of ordering a short shift kit. The weather was perfect on the Tail despite the rain around it. This was kinda a last minue decision to make the drive but we ended up having a TON of fun, we HAVE to do it again soon and get more Porsches to come along! Anyone who has never driven the Tail, you HAVE to get up there sometime. Its BEAUTIFUL! I'll post the pics now, and the vids later if someone wants to host them. I wish I could get pics on the tail itself but it's just wayyyy to difficult to try and take pics while driving that madness! Brad should have some sweet video of me putting my way back through the Tail after the linkage incident...

I drove the road to Hana this past July (10 year anniversary vacation to Hawaii) The Road to Hana makes the Tail of the Dragon look like a straight road! 600+ HAIRPIN turns, 50 or so ONE LANE Bridges in 30 miles! All I can say is that I was grateful I have some autocross experience! That road teaches you to look ahead BIG TIME!

Mike, I could lead a Rte 555 expedition in the future . . . . It will really test your abilities...and courage! A less-spirited pass the first time around is highly recommended!
