Replacing turbo electric water pump - WTB
Turns out the electric water pump for the turbo in my 951 is dead.
Anyone have one of these they are looking to sell ?
How difficult is it to replace ?
Thanks,
Mike.

I did replace mine earlier this summer. It's not that difficult a job, but then I had taken out the intake manifold to replace my vacuum lines. You also need to drain the coolant at least in part.
Good luck!

It's an easy job. I didn't drain my coolant, so it was a bit messy. But its a little tight down there. You have to remove alot of shielding. I have a good pump, but it leaks, so I doubt that would help you. Good luck man.

All 944 turbos have two water pumps. The standard waterpump for the cooling system (the one that fits just like any 944/968 with the T-Belt). And an additional electric waterpump for the turbocharger.
While the engine is running, the pump is 'open' and not functioning, thus allowing water to cool the turbo charger bearing.
Whith the engine off, the electric pump 'switches on' and pumps coolent from the reservior to the turbocharger for ~30second or so to aid in cooling. This increases the life span of the turbocharger (unlike oil cooler turbos that are out there today).

Thanks - that was one thing I really wanted to know. So theoretically my turbo is still getting coolant while the engine is running, and I jsut need to make sure I let the car idle for a few minutes before I shut it off ?

Should you leave the car idle for a few mins befor you switch it off:
IF you use the turbocharger, YES!!! As in driving and always hitting 1bar or more (gauge)
If you do NOT use the turbocharger, there is no need (since the turbo wouldn't be hot and weither you leave it idle or not, the tempreature wouldn't decrease).
Do what i do, before switching off after a normal drive, i just make sure that the water temp. gauge is on the 2nd white mark. If the fans are running, i just wait untill the fans stop

CAn I replace it without having to remove anything else ? I can see one of the hoses, so it looks like I can re-attach that side, but I'm worried about getting to the hose that comes out of the boottm. Is there enough slack in that one to pull it up to attach a hose clamp ?
