I'll admit, the 8500 had good range, but when you're going 130+ mph like I often do in Europe, you don't want to be braking for dumb signals like truck radios.

V1 cuts all that out.
Luis, agreed. I get lots of X band warnings. I leave my detector on Highway mode 100% of the time, so its not filtering out anything. My arm is trained to hit the mute button within the first second of an X chirp. Not a real issue for me, some may find it annoying.

I only brake for K or Ka (or LASER of course) on the highway. I've never passed a cop with the detector reading full X. I just don't think they use that band in my area.

As they say tho, YMMV. Would I call the Escort "junk"? No... but I wouldn't spend my money for one, either, when I know that the V-1 works better for me. And (true story here) I once played radar detector roulette with a guy that insisted his Escort was way better than my V-1, loser got to watch the winner crush his radar detector. I had a LOT of fun driving over the Escort, especially after the guy got written up for speeding.

By the way, Mike Valentine is a Rennlist supporter and Porsche enthusiast and he posts here occasionally. Your comments about his behavior, unless you have first hand knowledge of your allegations, would be considered "slander" and are a violation of Rennlist TOS. You might keep that in mind...
No flames taken (suprised actually, thought I'd get a lot more heat for those comments!).

You're right, I haven't met or interacted with Mike V. personally, please ignore anything I posted negatively about his character.

Like you said YMMV, every one has their own opinion... it goes on and on. I was just reading through all the support for the V1 and figured I'd chime in with my first hand observations of the two units.

For equal price, I'd probably still pick the 8500, but at nearly half the price, it was no contest for me.

Hosrom, I think the Whistler would work for you - well as good as it works for anyone - that is debatable, but for $40 i'm going to give it a go! It won't work just for the digital cameras (TRUVELOs) which are big static cameras and strips in the road a few yards apart or SPECS cameras that take your licence plate time you between two points over quite a distance (both quite new in the UK) - but then neither will the Valentine or the Escort. Do a web search for loads of info about these non-radar cameras to see if they are in use in UAE.

The only thing that will help with digital cameras or is local knowledge or Road Angel - which (i believe) is a GPS thing that works out where you are and knows where all the cameras are from a database that is constantly updated and warns you when they come up - i don't thing the Road angel helps against police men with radar guns.

Andy,

The Photo Radar will be picked up by a radar detector in time to prevent getting snapped up by the camera. Not all speed trap cameras in Europe are the digital ones you are referring to. Better some protection, than none at all. Even if it's a POS Whistler. YMMV.

From my experiences you can't beat the V1 it will go off as soon as that cop turns his radar on in your area. Too bad I have to send mine in to get it fixed
