How about 5 tournaments. One each for early 911's, 914's, 944's, 911 turbo's, and race cars (911 RS 2.7, 935, GT1, GT2). all cars would have to be stock and unmodified so the playing field is level.
4 tracks per tourney, and the driver can use any car as long as it's in the same class. Example: The early 911 tourney you could use any 67-73 911 except the RS 2.7, 911 turbo tourney would include the 993 or 996 turbo.
Points awarded to the top 5 in each race. 6 points for 1st, 5 points for 2nd, etc.
In the unlikley event of a tie there could be a 5 lap sprint race on one of the Monte Carlo tracks.
Having one tourney per week would give everyone time to practice for the upcoming races.

The thing about unregulated (using owned cars) is,
1: Not everyone is finished the game and owns the faster cars
2: Not everyone knows the way to setup a car to make it go fast.
3: Using owned cars opens up the door for cheaters, as it becomes much harder to detect which cars are hacked.
On a side note, every Porsche "cup" is based on the premise of IDENTICAL cars.
