Do you have any other pictures Dan? thats gonna be one hell of an amazing car once you are done with it. can you get coilovers and such as easily for the 914 as for the 944?

mmmmmmm. I love 914's. Does this mean it is all ready for the auto-X this sunday? Looks to be a great day, sunny and 76 degrees.

That car feels like it has more than 95 horsepower. It must be the factor of lightness. I say ditch those EXTREMELY BULKY MY9176 bumpers and get some lightweight ones. Or maybe even some 914/6 ones.

Man, I love that car. I bet you will keep it longer than you kept your 944.

Go a PCA Club Race if you can. There are a couple of 914's floating around with 962, yes 962, based motors pushing them. Horizontal fans, twin turbos, the works . . . think 600+ hp

crazy!

 

Missing the roof will do that to a car's torsional rigidity. There's a reason that the few 916's used a non-removable steel top after all.

after you replace the starter you need to install a hot start relay. its like a $10 relay at any vw shop, and you will not have another hot start problem (ie.. no more pushing). all 4 banger aircooleds have the hot start problem.

what size motor do you have? what distributor ae you running?

if you have an 009, then you need to toss it in the trash can (an 009 is for a 60hp vw beetle.. not enough advance, but it works in a pinch and is cheep.. thats why most po's who dont know squat put em in).

an 050 works well in a t.. im not sure what was original, but if you have an original distributor dont loose it.

do you have FI? carbs? what kinda set up.

 

Wasn't the hot start problem. The starter had a burnt spot in the armature. The problem occured on cold starts after sitting too. This car never had the hot start problem when I was driving it (4 years).

The car is D-Jet (or it was when he drove it away). To the best of my knowledge it was completely original aside from the deletion of the smog pump.

sounds good aaron! sounded like a hot start problem, but then again a flat spot has same symptoms. it would be a good idea to install the relay anyways when the starter is replaced, $10 piece of mind and might as well while youre down there kinda thing. good thing you deleated the smog pump too. those things are so parasitic on the engine.

 

It was a fun little car. I only miss it on days that end in "y".

But I just couldn't keep it with the move to Seattle and I needed something that I could at least pretend was more practical.

After seeing the car this weekend I gotta say it does look real good.
I may have to get one for a project car in a few years. I'm thinking of a 914 with a 911 Carrera 3.2 engine. I just have to finish the S2 first.

 

from what i understand the 3 and 3.2 is really hard to shoe horn in there. 2.7 is more realistic of a fit (but then again its the dreaded 2.7...)

 

There was a black 914 in Excellence with a 3.6 993 motor. Flat out awesome. If I do it, I'm not taking the easy way. I want it to be a little different.

 

There is nothing wrong with the 2.7 once you do the mods. There are people that put the 3.6 in there. It probably requires some real work though.

I have never seen a turbo one, but could you put a 951 motor in it?
