Smile 951 # 5 is home...

After 1250 miles the fifth 951 to be housed in my garage is home. Flying up to MI with a one way meant that no matter what the shape of the car I was going to be driving it to Rochester and then on to NC. I think if I had another way to get to the wedding in NY and more time to look over the car I might not have her in my garage. There is some rust that needs to be repaired, and while not the end of the world it will require my attention sooner rather than later.

But that was the worst surprise i've found, everything else was as expected and the simple mods on the 951 (mystery chips, shimed wategate and now a cat back) make her quite quick. I feel that this car is more than a match for the 968 on the highway, the 968 still has the low down grunt and extra gear to be a little quicker right off the bat, but still for me the 951 is the more enjoyable car to drive.

First things first, the car will get a once over to make sure everything is as she should be, then any issues will be taken care of, and hopefully shortly she will be seeing duty as my daily driver....

Long live the 951.....

Ian

Think you could kinda hold on to the 968 for about 12 months....until my twins are bigger and my wife goes back to work......ok....guess not......well don't part it....it's too nice and there are not enough of them around!

Good luck w/ tne new addition!!

Mike,

Well yes, I sort of have a thing for 951s. Not that its a bad thing, I could be hooked on drugs throwing my life into a gutter, but instead i'm hooked on cars and throw my money at them.....

Joe,

I wouldn't be parting out the 968, but rather setting it up for a transplant of sorts. Sell off the 3.0L and 6 speed, drop in a complete 951 driveline with a few goodies, and all of a sudden I have a budget 968/951 hybrid.....

Ian,

Congrats!

So, is that the final idea? Sell the 968 drivetrain and then give it the heart of a 951? We'll need to get together eventually.

Jeremy,
There are no solid plans yet, but none of the ideas in my head have me pulling apart this graphite metalic 951, she may have a few issues, but really with some TLC those will all be overcome and I'll have a very nice daily driver.

Now, as to the 968. If she sells i'll wash my hands of the whole thing and set my sight on some new project. But as of now i'm working on getting my hands on a complete 951 driveline at a good price, so if I can pull that off then i'll start thinking about pulling the 968 into the garage and starting the surgery.......

So lots has to fall into place, but if it does then perhaps this winter we can have a little chat....

David,
It's very cool to see a 951 enthusiest in the ranks of GT3 owners. Geuss you just know awsome cars huh? do you work on the cars at all?

David,
I should be bringing the 951 down to charlotte for one of the next couple beer night, and for the fall charlotte autofrair, I hope you can make it in either the 951, or the Gt3, but given that i've seen the 951 i'm hopeing you choose to bring the gt3....

Eyal,
It wasn't a bad deal I got, just the rust I need to fix is more than I expected and its something I can't do myself, so it will be a point of frustration. But after spending today with a bucked of simple green, a hose and a brush i've cleared off many year of MI road grime and I feel like i'm getting a handle of what I have to work with.....
