How expensive is "really expensive?" It's something you hardly change, why skimp on the cost when it's once a year at most?

I am using Redline. Isnt it a Canadian product? Would think you would get a good deal up there. Anyway as Sam said you only change this stuff every few years and even then do not use very much so buy the best you can.

Changing the transaxle fluid is the biggest improvement I have made to my car!

You only need to change it like every 60k....Considering how often some of you guys drive your 944's...thats once in a lifetime.

Ok. Part expensive, mostly inconvenient. According to their website, Redline is based in California. Nobody near where I live sells it and so that means ordering it and picking it up in the USA. Shipping to Canada usually runs about twice the price of shipping to the US and then there can be brokerage fees, duty and more tax. A $30 order could end up costing $60-$70 US (which is about a million Canadian dollars) Valvoline is the only Synthetic that I have found locally. You do make a good point about not cheaping out on something that you don't have to do that often. Thanks.

Good News. I just spent a few hours on the phone and found a local joint that can order Red Line. Most places had never hear of it and most who had, couldn't get it. I can pick it up tomorrow ($15 bucks a litre). Thanks to Sam, Bruce and Serge for Keeping me honest. And Dan, I love your Avatar. I had a similar influence as a young man.

I've been using Valvoline engine oil (synthetic blend), the synthetic gear oil and synthetic wheel bearing grease for a long time. After nearly 100 hard track days nothing's blown up or seized yet (knock on wood) so I'm willing to go out on a limb and say the stuff's okay...

Thanks. Next to SidVicious, R. Lee Ermey is the only Marine I like.
