Question early to late dash swap..how hard?

Since I'm basically gonna tear my 931 down to nothing, how hard would it be to put a late dash in? I know the wiring is different, but I'm going to have to rewire most of the inside anyway. Thanks!

Why even waste the time, I like the cockpit dash style of the older cars better myself.....By the time you would spend all the money and time, I dont think it would be worth it....PLus Im sure you would need to rewire alot of ****........If not just about everything, then dont forget all of your heating vents and controls will be different, so more stuff to buy and make fit, the speedos are wired differently, I would say no, spend the time and money on something else....

Don't do it is my vote, you will create a heck of alot more work for yourself than you need to. Lead foot is right about the Speedo that may be your biggest problem because the early speedos are cable driven so just for one example you will not have a working speedo. I know there was someone on here who once posted about doing the conversion, use the search, but I am not sure if it ended up sucessful. I too like my early interior, it feels more racey.

Sounds like it's not gonna happen then. I'm just looking for some ideas to update the look.

Wouldn't this conversion work if you were to use the front hubs/struts from an '86 turbo. I think (not real sure) that the '86 had a cable drive from the rt. front.
I've never pulled anything out of my ssa before, ha ha!!
Does anyone know fro sure?

My neighbor has an '84 and he did the conversion... All I can say is he shouldn't have. I don't know if it's a bad installation but the dash doesn't fit perfectly as it does on late cars, it seems out of place. The glovebox is useless because there is something behind it, hvac equipment iirc. Most gauges don't work, except for the temp gauge. I'm pretty sure whoever did his car did a bad wiring job but to make a good one, if possible, would take too much time, as noted above.

Tediously HAAAARRRRD...are the words to describe the early-to-late model dash installation. The older configuration has too many spot-welded items that take too much time to rectify. But, there are always cash-rich, work hungry Devil's Advocates out there- willing to sell their soul, to do the labor. But, however do-able is it is, the "project" is as redundant as the all-time #1 Porsche question; The 944 NA/turbo upgrade. If you even do it for the experience- will they ever believe you, or does it even matter? Get a new model=no project story necessary.
