Default Broken Seat

Okay, my passenger side seat is broken. The lever you pull to slide the seat forward and backwards is kaput. I know many of you are off playing Doom 3 and what not, but I'd like to fix my stupid seat soon, as I'm putting my car back on the road this month (woot!). I've looked at it, and in the picture below, it looks like the handle is bent all to hell, but I think it should be bent MORE, otherwise the lever won't fit in the slot and allow for the prongs to fit in their slots.

Look at the pictures and let me know if I need clarifying. I'm going out of town for the weekend, but am anxious to get at it when I get back.

Thanks

(This one shows the bent lever, and you can see where it's kind of breaking/cracking.)

pull the seat right out.. pull the rails off the seat. go down to your local hardware store and purchase some dura lube... lube it, let it sit for 3-4 hrs.. that stuff helps ANYTHING, if that does not solve it then I suggest perhaps soaking the rail in a bucket of oil overnight. Or just try and find another rail from a wrecker!

My problem though isn't the rail (the rail is fine) it's the lever that you pull to unlatch the seat from the rail. The lever broke off of its hold, and I can't put it back on, because that rod looks like it's bent out of shape (bent less than it should be bent, if that makes since), and so it won't go back on correctly.

You may have to straighten the rod and weld a reinforcement to it, or you may have to buy some replacement rails from a dismantler.

I had to buy a outer passenger side seat rail from Parts Heaven to fix mine. Charged me $20 + shipping. The lever is pot-metal and does not weld very well after it's been broken. I also bought new plastic barrel clips that connect the crossover rod to the outside slider. Mine were worn out and wouldn't retract both sliders at the same time. If the barrels are worn only one side will engage at a time. Works great now though. Check with Todd (tod84944) or Mike (Erau944) on the list here, they always seem to have some in their inventories.

Thanks for the responses guys. That metal handle is some cheap crap, lemme tell you Porsche went to the Fords parts bin for that! Mine's broken beyond repair now (unless I fab a whole new piece). It doesn't look to me like I can get the handle assembly off (the **** doesn't come off the metal, and won't fit through the loop holding it together). Looks to me like I have to replace the entire rail assembly along with the handle assembly? Gonna check with ians for a price quote, am I missing something or is this the only way to do it?

Thanks

Mark,
Replacing it is your best option. You only need the outer rail right? $20 isn't too bad considering the weld repair will break again (ask me how I know). If someome wants to sell you both, move on to another seller. Just make sure it's late style rail, the earlys are very different. Good Luck

The early's are different eh? Very glad you told me that, I would have assumed them to all be the same (even across different models) based on how Porsche tries to do things. 20 isn't bad, and if they're going to sell both, I may as well pick both up (I never know when something ELSE is going to break!

Thanks for the input people!

The early seats had the recline wheel on the seat, no tilt lever like on your later seat. The two different rails won't match up right.
