Yep...
Take off the exaust (easy)

If you don't need the o2 sensor and got a new one..

Do this...
PB-blaster/liquid wrench the crap out of it! and try to use a correct size socket with a breakerbar and get a 6foot metal pole and break it off... If no right sized socket then invest in a pipewrench and put the pole over that and break it loose! (hardest part is getting the old O2 sensor out)

Then just put the new one in (not hard) and bolt up exaust and hook the 02 sensor back in and its as good as new!

Grab the bolt part with vice grips then tap on the end of the vice grips with a hammer?

shouldn't be that hard. When you put on the new one use a little (very little) anti sieze compound and it won't get stuck.

Mine was in there pretty good too. I bought a really long 1/2 extension and a flex joint...I already had the magic socket with the cut-out (same one you use for the top nuts on the front struts) and cranked it from above with a half inch breaker bar. If you have the replacement with the wiring or if you're adapting the generic sensor you can use a deep socket on it after cutting the wire off...

The new O2 sensor solved a lot of problems....even made my gas and oil gauges more accurate!! Don't ask me why....

Now how about removing it while the exhaust system is still located within the vehicle? Is that easily done?

Mine was still in the car...a real long extension brought it right up to above the engine...and I cranked it with the half inch breaker...

Let me jump with a question since I should do it too one day:
Is it easier to do it on cold exhaust, or hot (right after stopping the engine)?

I changed 3 of them and the old ones just came out. Used an end wrench.
Get the bosch generic O2 sensor and wire it in. Thy come with some nice water tight screw in connectors if I remember correctly.
