Default What tires?

I was wondering what size and brand tires you recommend for a 944 n/a. I'm looking for all-season. tirerack recommends the Michelin Pilot XGT V4, so im curious on imput on those tires, or if people have found better ones the recommend (preferably not more expensive though)

I actually almost got those for my car; they were among the highest rated in a 15" / 205 (stock size) but ended up with Yoko AVS since they came on the rims I bought. When I (eventually) go up in wheel size I'll consider them or possibly the Yokos again though; they're awesome tires.

XGT V4 is a pile. There are far better options for less money out there that will last longer, ride better, and perform better.

Did you find/buy a car?

I have four XGTs from my brother's 84 in my garage with some life left. Was going to use them as autox tires if I bought a car that took 15s. The S2 takes 16s.

If you want them, you can have them. If you like them, buy another set, if not, buy something else.

Got to agree with Matt on the Michelin XGT, they were by far the worst tire I've ever driven in the rain. I had them on a Q45, my wife swapped ends twice in one month. I dumped them with over 50% tread life remaining. They had very unpredictable breakaway on wet surfaces and did very little to recover any traction until it's too late. Oh did I tell you they SUCK!

I had the XGT V4s on my Legend Coupe, swapped them on to my RX7 when I sold the legend, and had a set on my brothers NA.

The stiffer sidewall was noticed on the Legends ride more than the crisper turning, but othwerise I was very happy with them in all kinds of conditions.

I traded my Pilot snows for my brothers XGTs when I sold the legend. My coworker liked the XGTs on the legend in all kinds of conditions too. He put 50k on the legend in the two years since I sold it to him.

Based on my experiences, I would choose Michelin over any other brand.

Glad you had good luck with them Tom, the Q45 is quite tail-happy, even with traction control. All I can say is I've never had the problem since changing tires. I have an 88 Legend Coupe also, love that car, 260K and still going strong except for it's appetite for half-shafts.

I've not yet had any noise...it's mostly from the exhaust...

Default Noises from my rear

The tire noise thing was the topic of one of my other posts(went from rear wheel bearings to tranny bearings to noisy tires).I have the BFG KDW 245/45/Z16 on the rear and after much research determined that the tires were the noise culprit(tires are,(were) new at the time).Actually,it appaers that make more noise after extended driving(warmed up).Weird.I have just become accustomed to the noise.Don't even notice it now(play the stereo louder).
