Default Help! Tranny Fill Plug Stuck

I have searched the threads and know not to remove the drain plug until I get the fill plug out. That's the problem. I have the 17mm tool, a 1/2 inch breaker bar, and the tranny is out of the car because of a clutch replacement underway. I have used PB Blaster and have almost (but not quite yet) stripped out the plug. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. My next thought is to heat it up - but don't really want to do this unless it has worked for someone else. Any and all tips would be appreciated!

I just had to use ALOT of pb blaster and ALOT of elbow grease to get it loose. Mine was stuck good. However, it did seem that the drain plug did come more easily.

you are stripping it? be careful! because when those strip its not pretty

Try covering it in PB and letting it soak for a night. Spray the next morning again, goto work and then come back home. That should give it time to eat out the gunk and the calcium and rust built up on it after all those years. Good Luck and let us know your results.

If the tranny is out of the car.....why dont you just drain it...flip the tranny over, and then fill it back up through the drain. Remember, its just a little more than 2 liters.

Since your tranny is out, go buy a cheap 17mm from Autozone and take it and the tranny to a welder, have it welded to the stuck plug. Back it out with your 1/2" breaker, and buy a new plug.

If the PO galled the threads from over tightening you have no choice but to take it out and re-tap to clean the threads. You can't strip it taking it out, if it's stripped, it happened on the way in. I hope the drain plug is not the same. I'd buy a new top plug if it's stripped, clean the threads, re-install with anti-sieze on the end of the plug, HondaBond on the threads near the head. If the bottom is bad do the same thing. I've done this on 2 cars where pit monkeys have botched a simple oil change.

Thats what I was thinking...
as long as you know the required capacity... all should be good to go..

just don't try doing that with a tranny still in the car ( gets a little messy flippin the car over )

"I'd hit it!" Honestly, have you tried to wake up the threads by giving some good hammer force to the wrench. If you can't wake up the threads that way you could try heat (not too much, just a small torch). If that doesn't work then the threads are likely galled as stated previously. I had this happen on a friends BMW so we used an impact wrench to get it off (we had the 17mm Allen socket... if you don't, you can cut off enough of an Allen wrench to fit in the plug and in the end of a 17mm socket). Chased the threads and it went back together just fine.

Thanks for all of the tips. I have soaked it in PB Blaster last night and this morning. Tonight is the night to get it off! Hopefully the PB Blaster and hammer will work and I already have a new plug ready to install. I will let everyone know the result.

Make sure the wrench is seated square and you could also heat the area around the plug a bit with a propane torch. Just get it hot to the touch and good luck.

This is an update. IT IS STILL STUCK! I used PB Blaster, soaked over night, used heat, and finally a great deal of force. Now it is time to take it to a local garage to use their impact wrench. This is getting really frustrating. I can't imagine attempting to drill it out because there is no way to keep metal filings out of the tranny. What a pain!

I got a double ended nut (at any hardware store),and put a box wrench around it and a few taps with a hammer loosened it.Get another person to hit wrench whiole you hold it.Try a 3 lb sledged .see if that works.
