Default More power

I have been thinking about getting more power out the 924S lately. I figure there are 4 ways of doing this.
1. Rebuild the motor with 10:1 compression, ported head and manifolds, and maybe a new cam.
2. Swap in an S2 motor. I don't know whats really involved but it would be about 50-60 more hp. then whats alreayd in there.
3. Supercharge the 924S motor have a rebuild of the motor with 8.8:1 pistons.
4. Spray it with a wet 75 shot.

1., 3., and 4. look like the most likely. What do guys think about these plans. Also the supercharging would be a kit I would put together.

i think number one would be the best idea. The s2 would be my next best. Supercharging would be great but ive heard bad stories of melted pistons. NOS is just dumb. Its a temperary cure for a permanent problem.

Rennlister mikl1976 has supercharged his 924S. You might send him a PM to ask about his experiences with that.

I know Tim at Speed Force Racing. If you give him a call, he'll explain the safe way to do it for your car... He is a sponsor of Rennlist, so he's under the sponsors link.

If your car is 'in rough shape' there is no point in modding it, other than nitrous.

Since a faster car is available for not a lot more money, just buy an S2 or 951. The 951 is the only sensible car to mod for more power, unless you have LOTS of money, in which case the S2 can be turbocharged. If you put $4k into an engine swap (or rebuild) in a rough 924S, remember you'll have to pull that motor back out again when you sell it also, or get killed on resale.

Sell your car for $1500, take the $4k you'd spend on the swap, save up another $1k and buy a 951. That's why they made them in the first place. For people who wanted more power.

If you are still curious about motor swaps or rebuilds, do some searching. There are several people who have tried it and at this point I do not know of anyone who is driving and happy with a running S2 or 968 swap, and I cannot even think of anyone who has a built 2.5 8-valve on the street making more than a few HP over stock. Most of the stories you will read will be about months or years of struggle, many thousands spent, and then often the car is parted out or up for sale for maybe $2000 more than if it had been left dead stock.

On the other hand there are many NA owners who sold out and bought a 951 or S2 and are quite happy, being less than $5k out of pocket and expecting decent resale value (and who would get a decent settlement if the car was wrecked or stolen.)

dammit.....what the hell is wrong with you ppl?!?!
he said he wants more power out of HIS car...
quit telling everyone to sell their car and buy something else.....to me that is just frikin' immature.....
not only do you not help him by saying that..its tottally demeaning....like saying his car is "inferior"
which by no means is it.....

Well to begin with the question is too vauge. So lets start with ..."How much HP do you need to satisfy you"? and...."How much total cash can you realistically spend"?

We can get you a 1000 HP if the cash is there. But for most of our budgets the cost vs. benefit is minimal. The power is available but it costs. If you have an open budget there is power to be had.

I feel if you can give us that info we might be better able to help you towards your goal because if all you have is 100 bucks....well you get the picture.

Didn't you say you had a "jerking" when going on and off the gas? I commented in another post that this backlash is a sign that your clutch could be on its way out. Personally, I would really worry about this first.

Hey Neon Driver, I to have been doing many things to my 87 924S for more power check out my pics http://www.PictureTrail.com/fast924s. Many say it is stupid to mod a NA car but it is my car and I truely love it. Its of the road right now because I hit a deer. This winter should be lots of fun. Im looking into doing the GT conversion to her. Also I will be running a 75hp shot Dry ZEX nitrous kit with a MSD digitial 6 plus for the timming retard. I have looked into doing the supercharger thing but $5,000 is alot of money when your car is only worth $3,000. One of the biggest things I like is that moding a 87 924S NA is a road less taken, YEa I could go get a 951 But everyone has one. How many guys have a modded 924S. This winter I will alos be installing a Cam, light weight flywheel, the nitrous, and porting and polishing the head, and installing a larger throttle body. I say go for it and have fun with YOUR car.

Just so everyone knows i know this car will never run 10's. I know that. I was just starting to look at what could be done to get some more power out of it. It is going to be rebuilt sometime. When is still up for question. I have to get some little things fixed then thats when I hope to get some more power out of it. I wanted to supercharge it and be DIFFERENT. I don't want to be like everyone else and go buy a 944 turbo. For some that is great. Hey me and my dad bought this 924S for $500. It runs now and hopefully will be repainted soon. I just wanted a 924/944 that had a little more power then they do stock. Like I have been saying this 924S will never be a show car. Thats what my pop's 944 is for. The 924S was just supposed to be a fun car to mess with. I thought I would ask on here about maybe putting together a supercharger kit myself. Or maybe just have a higher compression motor then these things do stock and have a ported head and be happy with that. I like the cars. I can't help it. I can't find a cheap 951. Plus insurance some something like that would be an @$$ raping for me.

Sorry for the long rant. I am just tired of this just go out and buy a 951.

Pecker's calling all of us immature? Thats a first.

Some people have more money than sense ::cough cough::

Btw, if you want a cheap performance mod, keep wishing. Any decent hp gains will be very costly. Since you say youre on a budget, you're gonna have to live with the car.

Sell the 924S, and use the money towards a 951.

Trying to mod an N/A will cost far more, plus at the end it might be a waste of money since the resell will not go for as much as you dropped in it.

Well guys, it all depends. I wanted for awhile to turbocharge my 16 valve 2.5L S motor. that motor has alot more potential than the 8 valve 951 motor. I didn't simply because I didnt like the look of the regular N/A car as much...and the brakes suck. The suspension on the N/A is totally up to the power...if a 9000 Aero can be almost as fast as a 951 and be a big sedan the N/A can certainly handle it.

I turbocharged a non-turbo Saab for 200 dollars. That thing cost as much as the Porsche to fix and look how cheap I did it. Turbocharging a car is far from rocket science. Fab a bunch of pipes and fittings, get a cheap T3 or T25 or something and be on your way. Changing pistons isnt even a big deal. Depends what you have, if you have LeadFoot944's car, well, that car is beautiful and worth like 10,000 dollars..and it's an N/A from 84. it isnt worth it to sell the car for him so he is putting a 951 motor in it.

Getting a 951 is more practical...but alot of turbos in the 6-7k price range have alot of issues. I got a nice 944S for alot less than that and I bet I could turbo it for about the price difference of a 951. Guess what though. I sold my S for a 951. Hypocrisy, sheesh.
