Unfortunatly, I have to sell my baby, because she needs new rod bearings, and I don't have the time or money to replace them. The reserve is set at a very reasonable price of $1800, and I may consider even less, as I need to get rid of it before next friday, when I'm moving to NY.

If the rod bearings are going don't drive it at all. Driving it any more could result in seizure and a blown-up motor!

PS... $1800 is a little high since the motor may be toast and you will need to pull the engine first thing.

$1800 is too high??? I bought the car for $2300 and replaced the clutch and every suspension component in the front end. I have stopped driving it since I diagnosed the problem, but it does still run and drive fine.

With a potentially bad motor $1800 is too high. With good motor you car is closer to $2500, or right what you paid. You don't guy much in return for a fresh clutch nor replaced front suspension.

Sorry. Any car with a quesitionable motor is going to loose LOTS of it's value. I'f I bought the car I'd have to take in to account that the crank may be scored and need a new crank. If I try to drive it the engine may blow from a sized rod bearing. In any event it is time to pull the motor and spend a some bucks to rebuilt it.

BTW... I't can run and fine if need rod bearings. Might drive just fine, but without a running motor you can't tell.

drop the motor?
rod bearings is a pretty simple procedure....may take a while..but the engine can stay in the car.
plus..its not like those little slips of metal are that exspensive.

I guess your right. I have lowered the reserve and buy it now. This car MUST sell. I have no way to get it to NY, and no money to have it fixed or to buy a new car.

personally I'd pull the motor do to the bearings. If they have failed then you need to check the crank and sure it not damaged. If it has minor damage it will need to be turned. To pull the crank you need to tear apart the motor. You can just replace the berings, but if one spun then really need to check the crank. Plus you may need a new oil cooler. Reason is that if metal shaving were being developed then they can clog the oil cooler.

I had my race blow up on me from a rod bearing falure. The bearing spun and I did not know it. I kept running and then the egnine seize for a second before the #2 cyldiner blew it self to pieces.

Ben, I am not trying to be mean just preparing you for reality. I am always on the look out for cheap 944's since I spec race. Your car is too far away from Az or California to be spec racer (shipp cost are prohibitive), but even so It would not be cadidate I would recommend due to the uncertainties of the motor. Plus you say the intrior is nicer than exterior. Well where are the pics. Based on the pics I see and what I can figure from the text I am assigning value. Anyone potentialy buying a car sight unseen with no knowledge of the history will be wary of such a car.

BTW... The numbers look better now.

cant the crank be pulled from the car with the engine in?
you would just need to watch out as the danged thing weighs 52 Lb.s

Well maybe, but once you get that far you might as well pull the motor and do the work in an engine stand. The clutch needs to com off to get the crank out any way. Plus I am not sure you can get it back in properly upside down. You might damage the crank or girddle tryng to torque it upside down.

I forgot about the clutch...yeah..that would be a pain.

well, I guess you guys were right. ever since i lower the prices, ive been getting emails like crazy. Im getting a crown vic for $600 when i move to NY, so that will leave me 1k to play with. I pretty much said screw the sports cars for now, because i dont have enough money to keep up with the costs.

To bad your pcar fun has to end this way. I hope everything works out in the long run. It always saddens me to see someone give up there 944 unwillingly, almost like giving your pet away to a stranger.
