Default Build your perfect 924/931/944/951/968 b*stard car.

All this talk about motor swaps, tranny swaps, nose swaps, etc, has enticed me into starting this thread.

Let's face it. My car is a b*stard car. I have parts from a 924, 931, 944, 951, 968, and 928. There are probably others, due to stock part#'s, that I am not aware of. It may not be to the liking of some. But it is mine, and getting closer to what I want it to be, and what I think Porsche should have done with a 944-----------a lightweight, normally aspirated car with killer suspension and brakes, and minimal ammenities. With the more stylish, modern look of the 951/S2 cars. Once I complete the 968 3.0 swap (and do a final respray), it will be perfect (in my mind). A 944 ClubSport. I already have the badge made, ready to go on it one day. (hmmmm....if I could only afford a respray in Maritime Blau, I could die a happy man)

The dream question is: What would you make, if you had the pick of all of the factory parts bins from the 924/931/944/951/968 series cars? I'll start:

Body: 951/S2 type (european spec body and bumpers) with a rear bridge spoiler and front splitter. (although, A 968TRS rear spoiler could be better. hmm) Vented nose panel ala 931 cars. Color: Maritime Blau

Drivetrain: 968 3.0ltre motor with a 944S2 LSD trans.

Interior: Bare. Some racing seats, and the bare necessities. No power anything and no AC. Maybe a stereo to turn up when you are stopped at a red light and someone next to you has some gansta rap or hank williams blaring.

Wheels: Some 3-piece 17" cup wheels with the centers done in body colour.

Suspension: Stiff. M030 brakes. Borderline on uncomfortable for any date/sig-other to ride in the car. Coilovers on all four corners.

Total weight around 2500lbs.

Resale value arguments need not apply.

Any input is appreciated. Purists need not post. Money could be no object.

(I think I already know what Ian and 944Pete would like, but they can add theirs on their own............)

Hey, it's the weekend! Let's loosen up a bit.....

I'd prefer a slightly more streetable interior with 996 GT3 style seats, possibly A/C... but with no rear seats, and a rear rollbar with forward extending points still allowing easy access. Same looks package as yours. I'd like to keep the curb weight around 2500 as well, but through using CF hood and roof (no sunroof) with minimal sound insulation. I'd want either a 2.5/3.0 Turbo motor in there making about 400 to the tires, going through the 968 transaxle to custom made half-shafts to 10-11" Fikses out back (8" in the front). Far sportier and more firm suspension then stock, coilovers all around and some thick sways would have to be included tending toward initially neutral state at turn in (too much initial understeer in stock trim IMHO) with easily induced oversteer for throttle steering. Exhaust differences would be on the wild side (since money is of no matter here). I'd keep the wild dual header design, heat wrapped and shielded, followed though, by a full dual exhaust system with low-restriction cat coverters (oxymoron) and borla XR-1 mufflers with increasing ID pipes leading to 4" slant-cut, polished tips. A custom diffuser would obviously have to be done. I'd like the color to be a metalic black paint with matching black wheels, 968 door handles and mirrors with tinted windows for a fully stealthy look (proved in my eyes to be the far sexiest look for these cars by a guy who recently passed away... God rest his soul).

That's a start... right?

While somewhat OT: I'll play, it IS the weekend

Body: 951/S2 type with a rear bridge spoiler and front splitter. Vented nose panel ala the one I have. Fenders widened 3 inches to accept wheels.

Color: Maritime Blau, seriously considering this myself

Drivetrain: 3.4L custom Turbo charged 968 with variocam (coming soon to a 951 near you!) Custom 6 speed gearbox with hardened 1/2 gear, lower gear ratio than 968 and 6 gears.

Interior: Black. Some racing seats. Maybe a stereo. Sorry Im a woose I need AC and I love power windows and door locks. With as much power as the motor makes who cares about 10 pounds?

Wheels: 18X13 rear, 18X11 front. Polished lip, black inners.

Suspension: 996 TT monobloc brakes, Penske coil overs with interior adjustment *****.

Total weight around 2700lbs. (cant lose AC and the rest of the good stuff)

Mmm. Nice. With those huge wheels, you would need power steering. I assume no cruise control though.............

OK, here's my question, since Maritime Blau has been brought up again. Has anyone seen a 944 in the states in this colour? All I have seen are photos, like this one:

No Cruise Control now, already removed it, it got in the way

I have never seen the color in person. That car has cup car mirrors but the front end doesnt appear to fit, looks more like an NA with a turbo front end.

Body: Porsche 968 stripped bare no sunroof, power options, AC, or carpet, just the bare door panels with 2 race seats and roll cage. It would have a front spliter upfront, and a 968 TRS wing in the back. Car would be black on black and have gold BBS wheels. I would also like stickers on the side that copied the old 944 Rothman Porsche racing cars from the mid 80's.
Drivetrain: Bone stock 968 engine with some exhaust work
Transmission: 89 944 turbo trans LSD I guess the later version trans had harden first and second gears so they take more abuse.
Suspension: Bilstein suspenion all the way around and rear stiff springs for track racing.
Wheels: Gold BBS's 3 piece LM series

an original 968 Turbo S with it's factory clubsport interior and M030 suspension would suit me just fine. and it would look so mean in black with 18 inch magnesium BBS LM's.

btw - when college is said and done, i have every intention of finding a nice black 968 and doing the turbo conversion myself. alright . . . maybe with a little help from powerhaus. guys like raj sure have inspired me.

Matt H brought up more necessities... as a nice street/track car, cockpit adjustable suspension would be a must in my book (well a DREAM must )... cockpit adjustable sways and brake bias would be nice as well... good old Formula Ford style, maybe with a classy touch to keep a decent interior for the trip to work
