If you had to repaint your car right this moment...what color would you chose?
Assuming I had a 944
, there is this deep red that has flecks of black paint in it that just speaks to me. It's just a deep rich dark red. I have seen it or the like on some *gasp* Ford models. It's just a sweet red.

Welcome to the board.
In most cases it is best to always keep it the original color. Unless you're removing the engine, carpets, etc. there is ALWAYS going to be some evidence of the original color somewhere (floor pans, under hood, firewall, under rear deck, etc.) In such a case particularly if you want the car to have any sort of eventual collectable value why would you do anything else?
Even a $2,000 paint job looks awfully stupid when you open your hood and the color is different. . .

Indeed...very smart.
Since the only 944 I will buy is a red 944, then this "fantasy paint job" won't be too drastic. I also don't buy cars for how much they will be valued at the end. I buy them for me at the moment. Sometimes they have value when I am done, sometimes they don't. C'est la vie!
Thanks for the welcome. I've been hanging around for awhile. You can welcome me for real when I do get the 944, and upgrade my membership. It will be a rite of passage!

I think some of you may have forgotten something, the cardex will show the original color so even if changing to another factory color and dropping $5-10K to do it right, the value would still be diminished...not that a 944 will be that collectable in the near future, but if you're gonna take it apart and refinish it that carefully it may as well be a correct restoration.

I actually considered going with black on mine when paint time comes (black looks very nice on 944s with their lines) because any non-matching areas wouldn't look too bad (original color is dark silver/grey ("slate grey metallic") but the overwhelming concensus on a poll I ran was "keep it stock". In pondering this, I have to agree. . .
Black is nice but VERY difficult to keep clean looking. Every little ripple, scratch, ding, or speck of dust seems amplified about 100X with a black car.
