I am a fellow "clicker." It is SOOO annoying. It is about time to look back there and get this fixed for good. Any advice?

Mine clicks too and when it clicks, the temp. guage needle moves. All of the grounds under the dash and in the car have been cleaned and tightened. Any thoughts on that? Are there any relays that have control over the temp. guage?

I had this problem in my '88 951, and my mechanic identified the problem as a vacuum switch that is behind the dash on the passenger side of the car. The switch is part of the HVAC system. All he had to do was to disconnect the power line to the switch and clicking was gone.

You are correct this is from the two vacuum controlled solenoids for the climate control. I have replaced both of them once and it stopped for about a year but it is back again this year. I just turn the radio up, doesn't seem to effect any of the actual climate controls for heat or A/C, thats of course when the A/C works. Just one more thing that doesn't work anymore on my 20+ year old car with 200,000 miles. Oh well it still runs well and looks good.
