hatch seal
I get exhaut fumes in my car when I open the windows. I assume it's from the hatch seal not sealing. I guess the only way to fix this is replacing the seal. The cheapest I've found it for is $85 from pelican, anyone know of a place thats cheaper?

Did you try tightening up the catch mechanism? If not, it's easy to do; just shorten up the two posts at the rear end of the hatch until they don't catch anymore when you close the hatch with moderate pressure. Then back off little by little until they just catch. I had the same problem, and this procedure solved it. No more rattling either.

hey, krahmlow, i tried to shorten up those posts a few days ago, and was surprised to find that mine do not have a slot in the bottom for a screwdriver. did yours have slots? if they didn't how'd you get 'em to turn? i couldn't budge mine, but without the slot, it's hard to get a good grip . . . . . .

$85.00 is alot for that part. Check some people who are parting out cars or contact some of the scrappers like PartsHeaven.com . My car's PO (who happens to be my uncle-in-law) got a whole used seal in nearly perfect condition for like $15 at a pick-n-pull (probably Partsheaven, but I didn't ask him). Takes 5 mins to put back on and its perfct.

you're supposed to turn them. they're threaded and they're supposed to have a slot in the end for a screwdriver. mine don't have the slot, so i can't get 'em to turn.

I believe the older models had the slot and newer do not. Not sure which year they changed. I have an 86 which does not have the slots. They have rusted and will not turn. I broke 1 of them trying to turn it and had to drill the bolt part out and rethread the nut. I ordered new ones from Paragon and will put antiseize on to keep them adjustable.

I can't break the nut loose on the driver's side pole, it just spins. I might try replacing it. That and the pole on the other side is bent so when I turn it I can't get the hatch open. But it looks like the driver's side isn't sealing because of the pole, if that doesn't take care of it I'll check around the rear lights. Thanks.

Try closing up the gap on the hatch seal at the rear centre of your hatch. That may help for a while, until it separates again.
I closed off the hole in the spare tire wheel well, that helped out alot, but beware it may fill up with water if you don't have proper drainage from washing your car.

Soak the adjustment pins with penetrating oil for a day or two, impact them and try vicegrips or waterpump pliers.
