Talking Got a yet another car!

Now I've done it... I just bought a car I really really don't need (say goodbye to good credit... hello, debt!) There is absolutely no reason why I need another car -- in fact, I have one too many already! But this one of my absolute favorite and I'm stealing it: 1988 Silver Rose 944 Turbo S for only $8600.

Here is the original thread where the owner let us know about the sale: old thread, and here's the eBay page: eBay auction. It was a low-ball bid on ebay and I wasn't expecting to win, but I guess low-ball bids win sometimes.

I went over and picked her up last night -- thinking there's gotta be a catch. She's not perfect -- LSD appears to have been removed, low compression on one cylinder, dash is peeling, and a few very minor things: rear wiper doesn't work, right side mirror isn't convex, missing wheel lock keys, etc, etc..... But what a perfect plaid interior! And I love plaid..... I haven't found anything wrong externally -- and none of that seems to matter so much once behind the wheel: she's got boost!

Pics to come as soon as I find my camera! (I moved like a month ago, and still haven't unpacked.....) Between this and the 968, I can now die a happy man.

2 968's, 1 88 Turbo S, and a 87 S3? You are one lucky or crazy guy.
Any pics of the 87? I love Nautic Blue.

That is quite the collection. Congrats.....

Currious, did you pitch the 968 cab to the GF? or how did the came about? My GF is working on paying off her current gladware on wheels (saturn) and once she has it paid off she is going to sell it and wants a cab of some sort. She is thinking Z3 or Z4, where I am thinking 944 S2 Cab or 968 Cab and need some help with the argument......

Also add wrong wheels. I cant wait to sell my car. Sales like this are giving me great hope.

FWIW, I dont think that was a low-ball offer. I think you got it for about what it is worth.

Matt
Those wheels look right to me. They are NOT the D90 wheels. I can tell from the smooth transition between spoke and rim.

Look here

M - you are right, all I saw was the little Ebay pics, hard to tell there. My apologies.

I was anticipating more things to be wrong -- wheels (but did turn out to be club sports), maybe some hidden dents, torn seats... but none of that happened. I was expecting the worst. I think Turbo S prices, especially Silver Roses, are really hard to figure out: over the last year, I've seen some sell near $17K as well as a crashed out heap sell at $8K. It helped that the seller was a former lister who really needed cash (just bought a house and had three p-cars). There's another Silver Rose on ebay and noone is bidding -- so the Silver Rose premium must be gone: which is fine with me

Ian, my GF was looking at used Boxsters at the time and I just told her, "a special person needs a special car. Boxsters are all too common". Finding one in purple helped -- thank god we didn't end up with the red/pink cab.... Plus, she figured that she can get some free work done since I'm getting to know these cars all too well. Which is bad: I've spent two out of the last three weekends working on her car (doing the whole 60K miles list of things to do...). If she gets a

Ian for your argument, tell her the z3/z4's definately don't sound as good when you close the door.

Although.. the engine sounds amazing on that z4

I bid on that, too! Sorry for bumping up the price for a rennlister, I just wanted an email so I could check back on it. Seems like a great purchase, congrats!

What's the compression for all four? That will probably be your biggest issue with this car.

I was watching that car. I think you got a good deal because the low compression could be in the valves and just about all 944s have cracked dashes. The LSD unit could be bought for $400-500 used and the rest are easy to get. Its a great car for someone who can fix their own.

Really, where? For that price I would love to have a spare.

Maybe one can buy an LSD tranny and sell the existing tranny for $400-$500...
